Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope this letter finds you well. I would like to work a half year in England, so I am writing to respectfull request regarding approval for my work in other country.
There are many reasons why I want to work in the company's head office. The main reasons is that I want to gain the foreign work experience, which helps me communicate easily with foreign customers in our country. Another reason is that my grandparent live in England, so It allows me to spend quality time with them while working in the company's head office.
I have already discussed my duties with co-worker Urvil. He will work extra hours to complete my work. He ensure me that he will handle my duties.
I was wondering if it might be possible for you to kindly approve my request. I would sincerely appreciate your understanding and
consideration. I will make sure to complete any pending
responsibilities and make the necessary arrangements beforehand.
Thank you very much for your time, understanding, and
consideration. I truly appreciate your support and look forward to
your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Alpeshkumar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the writer explains why they want to work in the head office, mentioning both professional development ('gain the foreign work experience') and personal reasons ('grandparent live in England'). Second, the letter explains how the work will be covered during their absence, stating that a co-worker named Urvil will handle the duties and work extra hours. Third, it includes a clear request for help in arranging the transfer ('I was wondering if it might be possible for you to kindly approve my request'). The tone is appropriate for a workplace communication, and all parts of the task are adequately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct function such as introducing the purpose, giving reasons, explaining work coverage, and concluding. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, such as 'The main reasons is that' and 'Another reason is that'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between paragraphs could flow more naturally. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, ensuring the reader can easily follow the overall progression of the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday workplace concepts. Some less common vocabulary and phrases are attempted, such as 'gain the foreign work experience' and 'pending responsibilities'. However, there are noticeable lexical and collocation errors, such as 'work a half year' instead of 'spend six months', 'respectfull request regarding approval' (spelling error and awkward collocation), and 'The main reasons is that' (subject-verb agreement error with vocabulary). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples of successful structures include conditional and subordinate clauses like 'which helps me communicate easily' and 'I was wondering if it might be possible for you to kindly approve my request.' However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including 'The main reasons is that' (plural noun with singular verb), 'my grandparent live' (missing plural 's'), 'so It allows' (capitalisation error), and 'He ensure me' (missing tense marker). These errors occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing, aligning closely with the Band 6 descriptor.
