Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all three parts of the prompt: it explains the motivation for wanting to work in the Seoul head office, outlines how work coverage will be managed, and asks the manager for arrangement assistance. However, because the task length requirement was not met—coming in at 119 words instead of the minimum 150 words—certain bullet points remain somewhat concise and under-developed. For instance, the explanation of how responsibilities will be handled during the absence mentions a transition plan and colleagues, but lacks further elaboration that would fully extend the ideas. To reach the next level, the writer needs to ensure all prompt requirements are thoroughly expanded with supporting details while meeting the word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression from stating the request to explaining the rationale, managing workflow, and concluding with a polite call to action. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as moving from the personal development goals to the logistical transition plan. While basic referencing and progression are handled well, mechanical issues such as missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and the awkward block formatting slightly detract from seamless cohesion. To achieve a higher band, the student should employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices while ensuring consistent formatting and paragraphing standards throughout the correspondence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
An adequate vocabulary range is employed to fulfill the task requirements, featuring functional business expressions such as 'formally request', 'global operation', 'professional development', and 'transition plan'. The writer attempts less common lexical items, though there is some minor inaccuracy in word choice, such as 'insure' instead of 'ensure'. Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication overall, and the tone remains appropriately professional despite minor slips. To move beyond this band, the student should incorporate a wider selection of sophisticated phrasing and less common collocations with greater precision, while paying closer attention to exact spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and infinitive structures effectively, as seen in 'which can assume my key responsibilities'. There are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly a lack of capitalisation at the beginnings of sentences (e.g., 'i am writing', 'To insure', 'i have already') and missing terminal punctuation in some lines. However, these errors are limited and rarely impede overall communication. To reach a higher band, the writer must exercise greater accuracy with punctuation, sentence boundaries, and capitalisation, while demonstrating a more consistent control over complex grammatical structures.
