Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well!
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I would like to work for six months at the company's head office. I found on the company's website that the head office require an administrative for 6 months contract. This would be a great opportunity for me to broaden-up my horizon since I would gain a valuable experience. Additionally, this would also be helpful for the growth of my career.
While my colleague would help to complete my tasks as well when I will be absent, I will also keep an eye on the projects. Therefore, even if I would not be present in the company, still this wil not hinder company's growth.
Even though I have already secured the position there, transferring procedure from your side is paramount. Therefore, I am requesting you do all the required arrangements.
I am looking forward for you response on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Manish

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for general task achievement. You clearly explain your motivation for wanting to work at the head office by mentioning career growth and broadening your horizons. Furthermore, you briefly address how your work will be handled in your absence through a colleague, and you make a clear request for assistance with the transfer arrangements. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of how your tasks will be covered lacks specific detail about handover processes. To reach a higher band, you would need to extend and fully support all your ideas with richer elaboration while maintaining a clear and appropriate tone throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from explaining the situation to detailing work coverage and finally requesting help. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your main points into distinct sections. However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of transition words like 'Therefore' at the beginning of consecutive sentences. Referencing is generally clear, though smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the flow of the text. To move closer to the next band, you should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices while ensuring that inter-sentence connections feel entirely natural rather than formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to the reader. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'paramount' and 'hinder company's growth', which shows an awareness of appropriate style. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'broaden-up my horizon' (should be 'broaden my horizons') and 'require an administrative' (should be 'require an administrator' or 'administrative assistant'). Spelling and word-formation errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. To improve this area, focus on precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used accurately within your sentences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct varied sentences, such as conditional and dependent clauses like 'even if I would not be present in the company'. There are some grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and modal usage, such as 'the head office require' instead of 'requires', and 'even if I would not be present' rather than 'even though I will not be present'. Punctuation is generally sound, and these minor errors rarely impede communication. To attain a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and ensure tighter control over verb agreement and tense consistency.
