Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully addressed all parts of the letter prompt, covering why you want to work in the head office, how your duties can be managed remotely while you are away, and asking for assistance with the arrangements. The tone is appropriate for a formal communication with a manager. However, some bullet points are more developed than others. For instance, the explanation of how your work as a computer operator can be done remotely lacks specific detail and remains slightly superficial. To reach a higher level, you should extend and fully support all your ideas with more elaborated explanations and a clearer sense of purpose throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, and the purpose of the communication is apparent from the start. You used paragraphing to separate your main points, which helps the reader follow your letter easily. However, the progression between ideas can feel a bit mechanical at times, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift into discussing promotions without smoothly linking it to the previous points about daily tasks. To improve, you need to use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that every paragraph flows naturally into the next to create a smoother, more unified structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for this task and attempted some less common words and phrases, such as 'enhance my knowledge' and 'remote'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that detract from the quality of your writing. For example, you wrote 'knoweldge' instead of 'knowledge' and used conversational phrasing like 'bring to your kind attention' combined with repetitive expressions. Some vocabulary choices are slightly imprecise. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your lexical range, improve your spelling accuracy, and use collocation more naturally and precisely without relying on basic or repetitive terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your letter, attempting structures like 'Since I joined your company am working...' and 'This is an opportunity for me to show my skills...'. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect verb tenses, and run-on sentences with missing punctuation. For instance, writing 'am wrking' and omitting the subject pronoun ('as you know am wrking' and 'and i want') affects structural accuracy. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict your score. To improve, focus on ensuring proper subject-verb agreement, using correct tense forms consistently, and checking for missing articles and punctuation.
