Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Anuj,
Hope this letter finds you well. I'm writing to express my interest in spending six months in our company's head office in Australia.
I would like to work in the oversea branch not only for gaining international working experience but also by staying there I can get the indepth knowledge of this country's culture, which would be further beneficial for me and our company as we have a lot of Australian clients. Therefore, this six months would be significant for me.
Well, I believe that I can handle most of my job duties online when I will be away from this site, but still my assistant would be here always to deal with difficult situations. I can assign him new job duties in order to make work easier during my absence.
As far as I know, according to our company's policy, although my travelling expenses would be paid by the company, still I have to find the accomodation by my own. Hence, It would be appreciated if you can assist me in finding good place to live during my stay.
I hope you'll like this move,
Yours sincerely,
Nike

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your letter addresses all parts of the prompt clearly and presents a coherent purpose throughout. You successfully explain why you want to work at the head office in Australia, mentioning both international experience and cultural knowledge to help with clients. You also outline how your duties will be managed online and delegated to an assistant, and you appropriately ask for the manager's assistance regarding accommodation. While your ideas are all relevant and well-communicated, some points, such as the delegation plan, could be slightly more extended to fully reach the highest standards. Overall, your tone is suitably professional and friendly for a general correspondence task, successfully fulfilling the communicative purpose.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression from your opening greeting through to your closing sign-off. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the purpose of the letter to your reasons, then addressing workflow management, and finally requesting accommodation help. You use appropriate cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Well', and 'Hence' to connect your ideas, although some transitions feel a bit conversational rather than formal. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring that the reader can follow your requests and explanations without any confusion or disorientation throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common lexical items such as 'indepth knowledge', 'professional', and 'travelling expenses'. However, there are a few inaccuracies in word choice and spelling that prevent a higher mark. For instance, you wrote 'oversea' instead of 'overseas', 'accomodation' with a spelling error, and 'by my own' instead of 'on my own'. These lexical slips and minor collocation errors do not impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in spelling and fixed expressions to achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable control over syntax. You successfully employ complex structures such as 'which would be further beneficial for me' and 'although my travelling expenses would be paid by the company, still I have to find the accomodation'. There are some minor grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as unnecessary commas and slight preposition slips, for example, 'in finding good place' missing the article 'a'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, showing solid foundational control while pointing toward more advanced accuracy.
