Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the three bullet points outlined in the prompt, but the treatment of these ideas remains limited and under-developed. You successfully state your intention to work at the head office for six months to enhance your skills and mention your plan to cover your responsibilities while away, while also requesting assistance. However, the explanation lacks depth, and your position is sometimes obscured by confusing phrasing, such as mentioning two tasks at once. To move to a higher band, you would need to extend your ideas with more specific details, fully developing how your duties will be managed and clearly explaining the professional benefits of the transfer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation to your letter, with an appropriate opening greeting and paragraph breaks separating your main points. However, the progression of ideas is not always clear, and the overall logical arrangement is hindered by awkward transitions. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, such as the misuse of transition words like 'Despite' and 'Therefore' in sentences like 'Despite, I will be two task to do one...' Referencing between sentences can be unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your exact meaning. To improve, you should focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next with clear connecting ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for fulfilling the basic requirements of the letter. You attempt to use some less common words, but this leads to noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'inhance', 'tranfer', 'beacuse', 'excuss', 'schuadued', and 'promt'. These lexical errors and incorrect collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication at times. To achieve a higher score, you should expand your range of workplace terminology and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation, ensuring that words like 'transfer' and 'enhance' are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You display a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with verb forms and tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and sentence construction, as seen in expressions like 'I am writing a request for doing six months working' and 'If could you please do some arrangement'. These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and cause difficulty in understanding your exact meaning. To lift your grammar score, you need to demonstrate better control over basic sentence structures, reduce the frequency of errors in verb patterns, and improve punctuation and phrasing.
