Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I am writing to request a six-month temporary transfer to our corporate head office in London, effective 9-11-2026.
During my 6 years with the Delhi location branch, I thoroughly enjoyed my time contributing to the regional success and helping to build a strong team that can effectively handle long tasks. I want to work with top-ranked employee in the head office to learn leadership qualities from them that will give me confidence to handle additional teams. This will increase my chances of getting promoted to different secure positions.
I have trained my lower-level employees and newly appointed officers to look into the work which i have kept incomplete. Futhermore, they will perfectly handle future tasks which i was supposed to monitor because they have good skills to operate and these people are task oriented . I will be avaliabe to my team through connecting tools for the doubts or any kind of issue they will face.
I sinceraly request you to write an email to the head office for reallocation of my position to the london branch . I hope you will look into this matter and will update me as soon it will be arranged there.
Thank you for considering my request for my career growth.
Yours faithfully,
Atyab

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three parts of the prompt, earning a solid score by explaining the motivation for the transfer, describing delegation arrangements during the absence, and requesting the manager's help. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, which keeps the response from reaching a higher band. For instance, the explanation of wanting to learn leadership qualities from top-ranked employees in the head office is relevant, but the elaboration on career promotion lacks specific depth. Similarly, the explanation of how work will be handled in the student's absence touches on training junior staff and remote availability, yet it could benefit from more detailed business context. Overall, the tone is appropriate for a formal workplace letter, and the purpose is clearly communicated throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from the request to the motivation, delegation plan, and concluding call to action. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally functional, though some elements feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as the transition 'Futhermore, they will perfectly handle future tasks'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different themes, but referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use when referring back to junior employees and tasks. The progression of ideas is discernible throughout, providing a readable structure that meets the standard for this level while hinting at more sophisticated organizational skills.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less-common lexical items such as 'temporary transfer', 'regional success', and 'task oriented'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'Futhermore' (spelling), 'avaliabe' (spelling), and 'sinceraly' (spelling). Additionally, some phrases display awkward collocation or lexical control, such as 'work which i have kept incomplete' rather than pending tasks or unfinished work, and 'reallocation of my position' instead of relocation or transfer. Despite these slips, meaning is successfully conveyed without impeding communication for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like structures successfully. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, but they rarely impede communication. Examples include capitalization issues ('i' instead of 'I'), article omissions ('look into the work', 'to the london branch'), and prepositional or agreement slips like 'top-ranked employee' (should be plural) and 'for the doubts or any kind of issue they will face'. Control over complex sentence patterns shows emerging flexibility, balancing error-free clauses with occasional minor slips typical of this performance level.
