Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am Hetal Patel, working as an executive manager in the marketing department.I am writing this letter to seek permission regarding working at company's head office for six months.
I have been working with the company since seven years and it would be a great opportunity to work in comapany's head office. Besides this, I would get exposure to new working environment, which will not only enchance my professional skills but also will be benifical for further career growth.
Furthermore, pending tasks would be accomplished within the due time as there would be no time restriction.Along with this, one of my colleague Mr. Rakesh will represent on behalf of me in emergency mettings.
Therefore, it would be grateful if you could recommend me to work at headoffice. Moreover, if it is possible you could assist with the accomodation within the company's campus.
In anticipation, for a prompt response.
Thanking you,
Yours Faithfully,
Hetal Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain your interest in the head office through professional exposure and career growth, describe how work could continue through timely completion of tasks and a colleague covering emergencies, and ask your manager to recommend you. The purpose is clear and the ideas are relevant. However, some points are less fully explained than others. For example, “there would be no time restriction” does not clearly show how your regular duties would be managed while you are abroad, and the colleague’s role is limited to emergencies. Clarify your proposed work arrangements, such as which tasks you could handle remotely and what your colleague would cover. The request for accommodation is useful, but the main request for help arranging the transfer could be more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: introduction and request, reasons for the move, proposed work coverage, and a closing request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Besides this,” “Furthermore,” and “Therefore” make the relationships between ideas visible. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and some references are not fully clear. In particular, “pending tasks would be accomplished within the due time as there would be no time restriction” does not explain who will complete them or what the time restriction refers to. The final lines also contain several separate requests and closing phrases. Use more direct transitions and make the relationship between your own duties and your colleague’s support explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal workplace letter, including “professional skills,” “career growth,” “represent,” and “accommodation.” These choices communicate your purpose, and attempts such as “exposure to new working environment” show an effort to use more formal language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, and spelling slips occur in “comapany's,” “enchance,” “benifical,” “mettings,” and “accomodation.” Phrases such as “recommend me to work at headoffice” and “represent on behalf of me” are not natural in this context. Aim for precise workplace expressions, such as asking your manager to “support my request” and saying a colleague will “cover urgent matters.” Proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms. For instance, the sentence beginning “I would get exposure…” uses a “not only…but also” structure, and “if you could recommend me” forms a polite conditional request. The main message remains understandable, although some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. In “I have been working with the company since seven years,” use “for” with a duration. The opening sentence also needs a space after the full stop before “I am writing,” and “one of my colleague” requires a plural noun. The closing fragment, “In anticipation, for a prompt response,” is not a complete sentence. Review prepositions, articles and plural forms, and use a conventional complete closing sentence to improve accuracy.
