Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. William,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request to arrange my work in company's head office for six months.

I wanted to work in Ottawa's branch as it is the head office of our company. In the head office they use high technology and experinced employee works there which allows to to enhance my skill. Once I will be back in our branch I can use all the high skills in our branch for its growth.

While I am away, company could hire new employee or change part time staff to full time.I will be more than happy to train new staff before leaving the branch.i will be available all the time if the team needs me through emails or calls.

Could you please request general manager to accomodate to Ottawa branch as sson as possible for 6 month.I assure the team and company I will be back with good knowledge.

Thank you, I look forward for a postive response.

Yours faithfully,

Harpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requirements: you explain that working in Ottawa would expose you to advanced technology and experienced colleagues, describe how the branch could cover your duties, and ask your manager to arrange the transfer. The purpose is clear and the ideas are relevant. The explanation of how this experience would benefit the home branch is present, but “use all the high skills” is vague; specify what knowledge or practices you would bring back. The staffing plan is also somewhat general, and the request to your manager could be more direct and detailed, such as asking for support with approval, timing, and coordination with the general manager. These points keep some parts less fully developed, although the letter covers the task overall.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening request, reasons for the placement, a plan for covering your work, and a closing request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “While I am away” and “Once I will be back” signal time relationships. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening repeats “I am writing this letter to request,” while the final request introduces the general manager without explaining the manager’s role in the arrangement. The sequence within the staffing paragraph could also be clearer: explain first who will cover your duties, then how you will train them and remain available. More varied, accurate transitions and clearer references would make the progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main purpose, with relevant workplace terms such as “head office,” “part time staff,” “train new staff,” and “available.” You also attempt more specific expressions, including “enhance my skill” and “good knowledge,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the letter sound less precise. For example, “high technology” and “high skills” do not express the intended ideas naturally, while “accommodate to Ottawa branch” is not the right collocation for requesting a placement. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “experinced,” “sson,” and “postive.” Use more precise workplace vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully to improve clarity and professionalism.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example, “While I am away, company could hire new employee or change part time staff to full time.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction are noticeable. In “Once I will be back,” use a present form after “once”; “employee works” also needs agreement with the plural subject, and several singular nouns need articles. The sentence beginning “I am writing this letter to request to arrange” has an awkward grammatical pattern, and “I will be available all the time if the team needs me through emails or calls” would benefit from clearer clause structure. Practise accurate complex clauses and review articles and verb forms while retaining your range of sentence types.
