Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Arjun,

I am writing to you regarding the recent opportunity opened up in the company's head office, New York for an Investment Analyst. As discussed previosuly in our one-to-one manager connect, I want to explore the Investment banking vertical.

I have done my Master of Business Administration in Finance from Symbiosis, Pune. I believe with my previous work expereince and education, I will be a strong fit for this new role. Working in the head office as an investment analyst will enhance my skill set along with the organisation success. I have created a share drive, where i have uploaded all the relevant files related to my responsibilities within this project. Additionaly, from past two week, I am taking Bhaumik with me for stakeholder meetings. I will make sure before the new role starts, all my dependencies will be shared among the team and all my work will be distributed within team appropriately.

I would request you to roll-off me from this project for six months starting 15 October, 2026. Also, I would request you to initiate my relocation request to HR.

Please let me know, if you require any additional information from my side.

Yours faithfully,

Gagan Deep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You explain your motivation through your finance qualification and interest in investment banking, and you describe practical handover steps, including sharing files and involving Bhaumik in stakeholder meetings. You also ask your manager to release you from the project and initiate relocation with HR. These details make the request credible and relevant. To strengthen the response further, explain more explicitly why six months at the head office is valuable—for example, what you hope to learn from working alongside the New York team—and clarify how your duties will be covered during the full period. The current handover plan is useful but somewhat general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is organised in a clear sequence: the opportunity and motivation come first, followed by qualifications and handover arrangements, then the request and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and phrases such as “As discussed previously” and “Also” guide the reader through the letter. The progression is easy to follow throughout. Some links between ideas could be smoother: the move from your qualifications to the handover plan is abrupt, and the long middle paragraph combines several distinct points. Consider separating your suitability and reasons for going from the practical arrangements, and use a clearer transition to show how the handover will ensure continuity while you are away.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of workplace and finance vocabulary, including “Investment Analyst,” “investment banking vertical,” “stakeholder meetings,” “dependencies,” and “relocation request.” This gives the letter an appropriately professional tone and communicates the main ideas clearly. There is some flexibility in your phrasing, but a few choices are awkward or imprecise, such as “opportunity opened up,” “organisation success,” and “roll-off me from this project.” Spelling slips such as “previosuly,” “expereince,” and “Additionaly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural business collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make the language more polished while preserving your clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The letter includes both straightforward statements and more developed structures, such as “I believe with my previous work experience and education, I will be a strong fit” and the sentence explaining how you will share responsibilities. Meaning remains clear, and the overall sentence patterns are varied enough for the task. However, some grammatical inaccuracies remain. For example, “from past two week” needs a more accurate time expression and plural form, while “I have done my Master of Business Administration” uses an awkward tense and construction. In “I would request you to roll-off me,” the verb pattern is not well controlled. Review articles, prepositions, verb patterns, and punctuation around introductory phrases to improve consistency.
