Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request you that it would be greatful if I can work for six months in our company's head office in Australia. It can help me in my professional development and career growth. As it can broaden my horizons with which I will gain international exposure and I will contribute more effectively upon my return towards our company.

Regarding my responsibilities, I will train my colleages before going and handover notes or files regarding my work. Moreover, I will handle the tasks online if my colleages will get any problem while doing work. Additionally, my team is capable and well-equipped to manage all the tasks. My team and me have already discussed about it.

Kindly please assist me with all the formalities and visa applications. I would be thankful if you could seek your guidence and support. I would look for a positive response, thank you for considering.

Yours faithfully,

Reet Maan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that a placement in Australia would support your professional development, describe training colleagues and providing notes before leaving, and ask your manager to help with formalities and visa applications. The purpose is clear and the ideas are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed: the benefits of international exposure are asserted rather than illustrated, and the plan for handling work online does not explain which tasks you could manage or how you would coordinate with the team. The request for assistance is also broad. Adding a specific proposed arrangement and a clearer explanation of the benefits would make the letter more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: the opening explains your request, the next paragraph covers work arrangements, and the final paragraph asks for assistance. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” help show how the arrangements relate. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the first paragraph’s sentence beginning “As it can broaden my horizons” is not smoothly connected to the preceding sentence. The final paragraph also moves quickly from visa assistance to a general request for support and a response. Use clearer links between each idea and organise the practical arrangements in a more deliberate sequence—for example, preparation before departure, remote support, and team coverage.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant workplace vocabulary, including “professional development,” “international exposure,” “handover notes,” and “visa applications,” which communicates the main ideas. There is some attempt to use less common expressions, but several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce naturalness: “greatful,” “colleages,” and “guidence” are misspelled, while “seek your guidance” and “contribute more effectively upon my return towards our company” are awkwardly phrased. “Kindly please” is also redundant. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they show that vocabulary control is not yet consistent. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional professional collocations to make the letter sound more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex structures, including the conditional idea “if my colleagues will get any problem” and the relative clause “with which I will gain international exposure.” The intended meaning is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and verb patterns are inaccurate. For example, “I am writing to request you that it would be…” combines incompatible patterns; use “I am writing to request that…” or “I would be grateful if…”. In “if my colleagues will get any problem,” use a present form after “if,” and “My team and me” needs a subject pronoun. The opening also contains a sentence fragment beginning “As it can broaden…”. Review clause construction and conditional forms, then proofread for complete sentences.
