Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to request you to transfer my job position to our head office in Canada for next six months.
I am really interested in working at our company's main office in Canada, as I am planing to visit this nation next month to attend my friend's wedding. His marriage is scheduled on 12 November 2026. I believe that it would be a great opportunity for me to learn about the future endeavours of our enterprise.
I completely understand, It would become arduous for my assistant to handle the entire work load on her own in my absence. So, I decided to assist her in any sort of work-urgency. She can contact me any time by phone and email, whenever she needs. I believe that she has the potential to manage the work efficiently.
It would be greatly helpful if you could help me to make all necessary arrangements in Canada. I would really appreciate it if you can arrange the acommodation there for me. Please, inform our head office about my joining in advance.
I hope you will consider my request. I look farword to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Harpreet Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain your interest in the Canadian head office, describe how your assistant could manage work with your remote support, and ask your manager to arrange accommodation and notify the office. The reason involving your friend’s wedding is clear, and the opportunity to learn about the company’s future is relevant. However, the connection between attending the wedding and working there for six months is not fully explained, and the work-continuity plan remains general: you do not specify which duties your assistant would take over or how you would handle your own responsibilities remotely. Clarifying the professional benefit and giving a more practical handover plan would develop the request more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: request and reasons, work arrangements, then practical help and a closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “So” and “I hope” help signal relationships between ideas. The main point is generally easy to follow, but some links could be more precise. For example, “I completely understand, It would become arduous” joins two thoughts awkwardly, while “So, I decided to assist her” does not clearly explain how you will assist while abroad. Use a clearer transition and make the relationship between your assistant’s duties and your remote availability explicit. This would make the cohesion more flexible and the progression more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal workplace letter, including “opportunity,” “potential,” “manage efficiently,” and “necessary arrangements.” These choices communicate your purpose, and attempts such as “future endeavours” show willingness to use less common vocabulary. Some wording is inaccurate or unnatural, however: “transfer my job position” is not the usual expression for a temporary placement, and “work-urgency” does not clearly describe the support you intend to provide. There are also spelling errors in “planing,” “acommodation,” and “farword.” Choose more precise workplace collocations and proofread spelling; this will make the message sound more natural without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the reason clause “as I am…” and the conditional request “if you could help me…”. Most sentences are understandable, and the grammar does not prevent the reader from following your request. Some errors remain in sentence boundaries, articles, and verb forms. For example, “I completely understand, It would…” incorrectly joins sentences and capitalises “It” after a comma; “for next six months” needs an article, and “if you can arrange” is less consistent with the polite conditional “could” used elsewhere. Review punctuation and article use, and keep conditional forms consistent. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your varied sentence structures.
