Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Adham,
I am writing this letter for the application for my temporary relocation to Martrade's head office in Dusseldorf Germany.
As I have been promoted to Regional Finance Manager, I am feeling a gap to fill with respect to latest accounting software which is being used currently at Head office. I understand through the published policy that from next year onwards, consolidation of financials would take place at the regional office only, therefore, I request to work with current consoldiation team at head office to bridge my current skill-gap. Additionally, my stay at head office would help myself to assimilate with the organisation culture and vision more efficiently.
I have a detailed plan to carry on my duties remotely from head office. Wherever any in-person meeting or physical presence would be required, I have requested my deputy to attend that on my behalf. The physical confidential department files would also be handedover to the Managing Director for the time duration of six months.
Since HR requires approval from my direct manager, I request you to please provide your go-ahead so that a formal working plan can be organised by the HR.
Yours sincerely,
Muhammad Waqass

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly. You explain the professional reason for the placement—building skills in the head office’s accounting software and consolidation process—and add a relevant benefit in learning the organisation’s culture. You also describe how duties could continue remotely, including asking your deputy to attend in-person meetings, and you make a direct request for your manager’s approval so HR can proceed. These ideas are relevant and supported with specific details, giving the request a clear purpose. To strengthen the response further, explain briefly how you would maintain communication or manage confidential files securely while abroad; the current arrangements are stated, but their practical operation is not fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, logical sequence: the purpose of the letter, reasons for the placement, arrangements for continuing work, and the request for approval. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “therefore,” and “Since” help connect the ideas. The reader can follow the proposal without difficulty. Some connections could be made more smoothly: the sentence beginning “I understand through the published policy” contains several related points, so separating the policy context from the request to join the consolidation team would make the progression easier to process. The final paragraph is appropriately concise, though a brief closing sentence about discussing the plan could make the ending feel more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of workplace and finance vocabulary, including “Regional Finance Manager,” “consolidation of financials,” “in-person meeting,” and “formal working plan.” These choices communicate the professional context and show some flexibility beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word-choice, collocation, or spelling issues reduce precision: “application for my temporary relocation” is less natural than “request for a temporary transfer,” “skill-gap” is awkward in this context, and “consoldiation” is misspelled. “Assimilate with the organisation culture” is also not idiomatic. Greater control of common professional collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more natural and precise while preserving the strong subject-specific range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex structures, such as the conditional clause “Wherever any in-person meeting … would be required” and the explanation beginning “Since HR requires approval.” Meaning remains clear throughout. Some grammatical inaccuracies are present, however. In “I am writing this letter for the application,” the structure is awkward; “I am writing to request” would be more direct. “I am feeling a gap to fill” has an unsuitable verb pattern, while “help myself to assimilate” uses an unnecessary reflexive pronoun. There are also issues with articles and number in “the organisation culture” and “any in-person meeting.” Review verb patterns, article use, and singular/plural agreement, and aim for more consistently accurate complex sentences.
