Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to request you to transfer me to our head office at New York, Unites States for the next 6 months for training for a new department .

Yesterday, i came across a ad on our company website, where they posted a new wonderful job oppurtunity exclusive for the current employees'. They are starting a new department for anti money laundering and looking for volunteers to train before starting the department next year. As I am from financial department, I am intrigued by this and would love to take part in it and it would help me enchance my skills and growmy carrer.

The duration of the training is for 6 month and i have to shift to New York, for that. I would require a no objection letter from you as part of the requirement for the project. Additionaly, I will be available remotely, If any team member need my help or assistance for current project. I can definetly help them.

Furthermore, before leaving i will complete all my commitment and train sam as well to cover for me in my absence.

Feel free to reach out to me, if you need any help from my end.

Thank You,

Yours faithfully,

Sadaf.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain your interest in the anti-money-laundering training, describe how you could support the team remotely and train Sam, and ask your manager for a no-objection letter. The purpose is clear and the details about your financial-department experience make the request relevant. The explanation of how your current duties would be covered is useful, but it is brief, and the request for help could be more explicit about what arrangements you need the manager to make beyond providing the letter. The response therefore covers the task well overall, while some ideas are less fully developed. To strengthen it, specify how you would coordinate remote support and ask directly for approval and assistance with the transfer and training arrangements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally clear progression: it introduces the request, explains the training opportunity, then discusses the six-month absence and how you would support colleagues. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and connectors such as “Furthermore” make the sequence easy to follow. However, some links feel mechanical, particularly “Additionally” followed by “Furthermore,” and the final request for help is not clearly connected to the specific arrangements described earlier. The opening paragraph also combines the request and its purpose in a way that could be more smoothly organised. Use a clearer sequence—reason for the request, proposed work coverage, then a direct request for approval—and vary linking phrases or rely on the relationship between ideas rather than adding a connector each time.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “head office,” “volunteers,” “training,” “remotely,” and “assistance,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “anti money laundering” and “no objection letter.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or awkward combinations reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary: “oppurtunity,” “enchance,” and “carrer” are misspelled, while “transfer me to our head office” may not accurately describe a temporary training placement. Some phrases, such as “new wonderful job opportunity,” are less suitable for a formal request. Aim for precise, professional wording and check spelling; for example, describe the arrangement as a temporary placement and refer to the training opportunity in neutral terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation beginning “As I am from financial department” and the conditional offer to help colleagues remotely. The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “a ad” instead of “an ad,” “for the next 6 months for training” with an unclear sentence structure, and “If any team member need my help,” where the subject and verb do not agree. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “i” and “If,” and punctuation around introductory phrases could be more controlled. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then read the letter aloud to identify awkward constructions. More accurate complex sentences would help you express the arrangements clearly.
