Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Respected sir,

I am writing to this letter to express my interest in working at our company's head office in the Canad for six months. I believe this opportunity would help me to elaborate my professional skills and gain valuable international experience.

The main reason I would like to work at the head office is to learn about the company's international operations and understand how different departments work together. I also believe that working with experienced colleagues from various backgrounds would help me to develop my new skills and contribute more effectively to our team when I return.

I would ensure that all my tasks are properly organized before leaving. I could complete some of my work remotely and attend online mettings regularly. In addtion, I would prepar all the reports and share information with a colleague who could handle urgent metters in my absence.

I would be greatful if you could help me arrange this opportunity. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to hearing from you.

Your sincerely,

Smruti Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain your interest in learning about international operations, describe remote work and handover arrangements, and ask your manager to help arrange the placement. The reasons are relevant, and the return benefit—contributing more effectively to your team—adds useful detail. The practical plan is also clear, with online meetings and a colleague covering urgent matters. However, some points are only briefly stated: for example, you do not explain which tasks could be completed remotely or how the proposed six-month arrangement would work in practice. The request is polite but could be more specific about the help needed, such as discussing approval or contacting the head office. This covers the task well overall, with some ideas less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a clear overall structure: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraph gives your reasons, the third explains work arrangements, and the closing makes the request. This logical progression makes the message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “The main reason,” “also,” and “In addition” to connect related points. At times, however, the links feel somewhat formulaic, and the relationship between the remote-work plan and the colleague’s cover could be made clearer. The opening and closing conventions are present, but the salutation and sign-off are not fully appropriate for a professional letter. More precise transitions and clearer connections between the arrangements would make the cohesion more flexible and polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant workplace vocabulary, including “international operations,” “departments,” “remotely,” and “urgent matters,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “express my interest” and “contribute more effectively.” However, several spelling errors—“Canad,” “mettings,” “addtion,” “prepar,” “metters,” and “greatful”—are noticeable, and some word choices or combinations are unnatural, particularly “elaborate my professional skills” and “develop my new skills.” The range is adequate for this letter, but accuracy and natural collocation are inconsistent. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional workplace expressions, such as “develop my professional skills” and “prepare reports,” to make your vocabulary more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional “I could complete some of my work remotely” and the relative clause “a colleague who could handle urgent matters.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the paragraphing helps the reader follow the message. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. “I am writing to this letter” has an unnecessary preposition; “I would be greatful if you could help me arrange this opportunity” would be more grammatically complete as “help me to arrange” or “help arrange”; and “Your sincerely” should be “Yours sincerely.” The salutation also needs consistent capitalization and punctuation. Greater control of these patterns, while retaining your sentence variety, would improve accuracy.
