Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to request permission to work at your head office for at least six months.

Currently, I am doing online work from my home town. But I eagerly want to polish my skills and learn more under your supervision. Moreover, I came to know that few training sessions are scheduled for web developers, where participants can learn advanced project management and AI modulation. It would be great if I could attend these sessions. It will enhance my existing skills.

Let me assure you, I will do my existing task throughtout this period. In addition to this, I will work on additional tasks in headoffice.

Lastly, I also want to experience Australian culture. This will allow me to dicide whether I should move their permanently or not.

I would appreciate if you could allow and assist me finding suitable accommodation and travel options.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours Sincerely,

Samra Javed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that you want to develop your skills and attend training, promise to continue your current work, and ask your manager to help with arrangements. The reasons are relevant, and the reference to Australian culture adds a personal motivation. However, the work plan is less fully explained: “I will do my existing task” does not clarify how you would coordinate remotely, manage deadlines, or maintain communication. The request for help also focuses on accommodation and travel rather than explicitly asking the manager to arrange the temporary placement with the head office. These details make the response complete overall, but some ideas are not yet developed as fully as others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the request, gives reasons, explains how you would continue working, and closes by asking for assistance. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “In addition to this,” and “Lastly” make the progression easy to follow. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and the relationship between the training, your current duties, and the additional head-office tasks could be made clearer. The phrase “this period” also relies on the reader to infer that it refers to the six months. A more direct progression, with clearer references and a specific paragraph explaining the remote-work arrangement, would make the cohesion more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the purpose, including relevant expressions such as “polish my skills,” “training sessions,” “advanced project management,” and “suitable accommodation.” These help communicate your professional and personal reasons. There are also some inaccurate or awkward choices: “AI modulation” is unclear in this context, “existing task” is less natural than a phrase referring to your current responsibilities, and “move their permanently” contains a spelling error and an incorrect word choice. “Head office” is also written as one word once. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose familiar, accurate collocations where you are unsure of a technical term, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I would appreciate if you could allow…” and the clause beginning “where participants can learn…”. Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obstruct the message. Some grammatical control needs attention: “I would appreciate if” is better formed as “I would appreciate it if”; “assist me finding” needs “assist me in finding”; and “I will do my existing task” is not a natural grammatical construction for describing ongoing duties. The sentence beginning “Let me assure you” also needs clearer punctuation or a more direct structure. Continue using varied sentence patterns, while checking verb complements, articles, and punctuation in longer sentences.
