Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request of my transfer from our location Akal optical Mississuaga to our head office at Vaughan for six months.
Actually, I want to gain knowledge and experience how the employees work at headoffice.I would also be capable to share experience with another colleagues. As a result, our company will grow more.
I would like to replace my position with kiran as she knows how i managed the work. When i was on vacation during that she also handled my place in a better way. Even when i need any assistance she always helps because she know some of my responsibilities.
Kindly help me to arrange my travel to our head office. I will try to learn as soon as i can. If it would be possible, will try to come before six months.
Looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Navdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the main purpose and all three requested points: you explain that you want to gain experience at the head office, propose that Kiran cover your role, and ask your manager to help arrange the move. The reason for the placement is relevant, but “our company will grow more” is broad and would be stronger with a specific benefit you expect to bring back. The work-cover plan is also only partly clear: you describe Kiran’s past help, but do not explain whether she can take over your duties for the full six months or how your work will be managed. Clarifying these details and making the request more specific would develop the letter more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: request and reason, proposed cover, then a request for assistance and a closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and links such as “As a result” and “When” show how ideas relate. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation, with some evidence of more flexible linking. However, the connection between Kiran’s previous cover during your vacation and her ability to replace you for six months needs to be made explicit. The final paragraph also moves quickly from arranging travel to learning quickly and possibly coming before six months, so the intended timing is unclear. Use clearer transitions and explain how each point supports the request.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central request, using relevant terms such as “head office,” “gain knowledge and experience,” “responsibilities,” and “assistance.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations sound unnatural, including “request of my transfer,” “replace my position with Kiran,” and “arrange my travel.” These choices make parts of the letter less precise, even though the general meaning can be understood. Spelling and capitalisation also need attention in “headoffice,” “Mississuaga,” and “i.” Aim for standard workplace collocations and more precise language, such as requesting a temporary assignment and arranging the placement, while checking spelling and proper nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some longer structures, for example “When I was on vacation … she also handled my place” and “Even when I need any assistance she always helps.” This shows an attempt to connect ideas, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction: “I would also be capable to share” needs a different verb pattern, while “she know” does not agree with its subject. The opening phrase “I am writing to request of my transfer” is also not grammatically formed. Review verb patterns after “capable,” subject–verb agreement, and complete conditional sentences; these changes would make your meaning more consistently clear.
