Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sam,
I am writing this email regardiing working in our head office in the USA.
As you know, I have been working for this organization for 5 years. I have learned many things and gained good experince. However, I did not get enough practcical knowledge which I think I will get when I visit our head office as they provide wide range of practical work.
While I am away, Raj will take care of any issues or problems that need to be done form my side. I will explain him all the work properly and also guide him if he get stuck anywhere. Besides that, I will be available for weekly meeting to stay upto date.
I would appriciate if you could assist me with the application which I have to submit before I go USA. Also, I will need help with immigration process which I will start once I get conformation from your side.
Waiting for your potsitive responce.
Thanks and Regards,
Om

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that you want practical experience at the US head office, identify Raj as the person who could cover your work, and ask Sam for help with the application and immigration process. The purpose is clear and relevant throughout. The explanation of what you hope to learn is present, but “wide range of practical work” is general and would be stronger with a specific example of a skill or project. The handover plan is also useful, though it could clarify how Raj will be briefed and what responsibilities you will retain remotely. The request for assistance is clear; a more direct, courteous closing request would make the letter feel more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the proposed move, explain its benefit, describe cover arrangements, and then request assistance. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “However,” “While I am away,” and “Besides that” help the reader follow the points. The organisation is coherent, though some connections are a little mechanical, and “Besides that” is less formal than the rest of the letter. The reference to “any issues or problems that need to be done from my side” is not fully clear, so the reader may be unsure exactly what Raj will handle. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and make the final request and sign-off flow naturally from the preceding paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “practical knowledge,” “guide him,” “weekly meeting,” and “immigration process.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “regardiing,” “experince,” “appriciate,” and “responce,” and they reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “wide range of practical work” and “issues or problems that need to be done from my side” do not convey the intended meaning as clearly as they could. “Stay up to date” is understandable, but “keep up to date” is more natural here. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing precise workplace collocations, while retaining the clear, task-relevant vocabulary you already use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “However, I did not get enough practical knowledge which I think I will get…” and the conditional request “if you could assist me.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I will explain him” needs an indirect-object construction (“explain the work to him”), and “if he get stuck” needs subject–verb agreement (“if he gets stuck”). Articles and prepositions also need attention in “provide a wide range” and “go to the USA.” The sentence about work “that need to be done” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the work and the issues. Proofread these patterns and vary complex sentences while keeping their structure controlled.
