Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sarah,

I am writing this letter to express my interest to work in our head office situated in Australia. I read the email today forwarded by our head of department in regards to a six months project coming in the main office which will be starting next month. I believe this opportunity could be beneficial for my job scope as they are proving advanced training on Quickbooks Accounting software. Moreover, the sessions will be held by the experts. Along with this, they will be providing free licensing for three years.

In my opinion, this would be a great chance for our branch to show the support. However, I would like to request to change my work setup as remote for the upcoming period of six months. Consequently, this will allow for a smooth transition. I will be connected with team on Teams application and will deliver my tasks accordingly. I understand there could be some difficulties but I assure to provide my best services as I can.

Perhaps, I will be really grateful if my ask could be approved. Futhermore, upon validation I would like to appeal if the accounts department can arrange a safe browser to use in Australia.

I hope to hear back from you soon. Please reach out if you might have any questions or concerns.

Your faithfully,

Muskan Arora

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain the training and software benefits, propose working remotely, and ask Sarah to approve the arrangement and help with a browser. The purpose is clear and the details about supporting your branch make the request relevant. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. For example, “this will allow for a smooth transition” does not clarify what transition you mean, and the practical plan for completing your usual duties while abroad remains general. The request for a “safe browser” also appears late and is not clearly linked to the work arrangement. To strengthen the letter, explain how you will manage responsibilities, availability, and any handover, and make the specific assistance you need from your manager explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: it introduces the opportunity, explains the proposed remote-work arrangement, makes a further request, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “Moreover,” “Along with this,” and “However” guide the reader through the points. At times, though, cohesion feels mechanical or the connection between ideas is unclear. “Consequently, this will allow for a smooth transition” does not clearly follow from the request to work remotely, while “Perhaps” weakens the transition into the approval request. The browser request also feels detached from the preceding paragraph. Use fewer formulaic linkers and make the relationship between each sentence explicit—for example, connect the browser request directly to secure access to company systems in Australia.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal workplace letter, including “opportunity,” “advanced training,” “licensing,” “remote,” and “transition.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is generally professional. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “interest to work,” “job scope,” “show the support,” and “my ask.” “Proving advanced training” also appears to be an incorrect word choice, and “Futhermore” is misspelled. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for established workplace expressions, such as “interested in working,” “professional development,” “support our branch,” and “request.” Check spelling carefully and choose words that fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the project … which will be starting next month” and a conditional structure in “if my ask could be approved.” Most sentences remain understandable, and grammatical errors rarely obstruct the message. Some errors in sentence construction and grammatical patterns remain: “I am writing … to express my interest to work” needs a different construction, and “I will be connected with team” is missing an article and uses an awkward grammatical pattern. In “I assure to provide my best services as I can,” the verb pattern and clause structure are not controlled. Review verb patterns after nouns and verbs, articles before singular countable nouns, and the construction “as best I can.” More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
