Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
This is Neethu Simon and I am writing this letter to ask you for permission to work in our head office in London for six months.
Actually, I was thinking about this for a long time now. You already aware my two ongoing projects, I am almost close to winding one of that and the other one is for the company based in London. I was trying to get hold of people who might give a hand with the projects for past few weeks and time zone difference is keeping me work extra hours. Due to this, I feels like I way behind finishing it on the dead line. If, you give me the permission to work from the head office, I am sure that I can complete the project within the time frame, considering its a very big one. Despite that, Mr.John agreed me to assist me with the London project as well.
While I am away, my team agreed to take care of the ongoing projects. Just letting you know that, we only have few on our table now. I deligate the tasks, hence, It would be done in two weeks.
I would like to mention that I need your help arranging my trip to the head office, stay and my tickets. Don not hesitate to contact me at anytime. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerly,
Neethu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your reasons for wanting to work in London, describe how colleagues could cover your current work, and ask your manager to arrange travel and accommodation. The London project, time-zone difficulties, and Mr John’s offer of assistance make the request relevant and reasonably clear. The explanation of how work would continue is less fully developed: “my team agreed to take care” and “I delegate the tasks” do not specify who will handle each project or how you will stay involved. The request for help is also quite broad. To strengthen the letter further, clarify your proposed responsibilities in London and specify what arrangements or approval you need from your manager.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall shape: the opening states its purpose, the middle explains the work situation and coverage plan, and the closing asks for practical help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “While I am away” help signal a change of topic. However, some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “Despite that,” which does not express the relationship between the previous point and Mr John’s offer. The long second paragraph also combines several ideas, making the sequence of project details harder to follow. Use more precise transitions and separate the reason for the placement from the handover plan; this would make the progression smoother and reduce the impression of ideas being joined mechanically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of workplace vocabulary, including “ongoing projects,” “time zone difference,” “assist,” and “time frame,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “winding one” and “get hold of people,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. For example, “I feels like I way behind” and “agreed me to assist me” show problems with word form or collocation, while “deligate” and “Sincerly” are misspelled. These errors make the language less precise and occasionally distract the reader, although they do not prevent understanding. Build accuracy by checking common workplace collocations and spelling, and choose direct, natural phrases for project progress and colleagues’ support.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional request (“If you give me the permission…”) and a time clause beginning “While I am away.” This shows some range, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to limit clarity. Examples include “You already aware” (missing a verb), “I feels,” “I way behind,” and “I deligate the tasks, hence, It would be done.” The final sentence also has an unclear subject and reference. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, tense, and articles. Breaking the longest sentences into shorter, correctly punctuated units would help you express the same ideas more accurately.
