Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr John,

I am writing this letter to propose the opportunity to work at our company's head office in Singapore. Which would be beneficial for both company and personally.

I have been working for this company several years and I believe this temporary assignment will directly benefit our local office in several ways. It will allow me to gain knowledge of international projects, procedures, and enhance my interpersonal skills. Working alongside international team will assist me to establish new relations with colleagues from other nations.

While I am away, I will ensure the routine work is completed in a proper manner, for this, I will complete my daily workload remotely. In case my physical presence is required, I have trained one of our employees, who is already familiar with our work at local office.

I would request you to assist me to arrange this trip by providing all the necessary documentation, work-permit, and tickets for smooth transfer.

Yours sincerely,

John conner.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain your interest in the Singapore head office, describe how local duties could be covered, and ask your manager to help arrange the move. The benefits—learning about international projects and procedures and building relationships with overseas colleagues—are relevant and give your request a clear rationale. You also offer practical continuity measures, including remote work and training a colleague. These ideas are clear and supported, although the personal and company benefits could be developed further, and the request for assistance focuses mainly on documents, a permit, and tickets rather than explicitly asking for approval of the six-month assignment. Clarifying the proposed duration and how the experience would benefit the local office would make the case more complete and persuasive. The tone is appropriately formal overall, though the salutation and sign-off should match the manager and writer’s identities consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the proposal, explains its benefits, outlines how work will continue, and ends with a request. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “While I am away” and “In case” signal the relationship between ideas. The organisation is effective overall, but a few connections are less smooth. For example, “Which would be beneficial for both company and personally” is separated from the sentence it depends on, interrupting the opening. The phrase “for this” also makes the transition into the remote-work plan feel mechanical. Connect these ideas directly and use more precise links between the company’s needs and your proposed arrangements to make the progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal workplace request, including “temporary assignment,” “international projects,” “interpersonal skills,” and “routine work.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the tone is generally suitable. Some collocations and expressions are less natural or precise, however: “gain knowledge of international projects” and “establish new relations” could be expressed more idiomatically, while “smooth transfer” is vague in this context. “Necessary documentation” is also broad when you could specify the support required. Aim to use workplace collocations that clearly describe the purpose and practical arrangements of the assignment. The vocabulary is varied enough to handle the task, but more accurate phrasing would make the letter sound more polished and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as “While I am away, I will ensure…” and the sentence explaining that a trained employee can cover work requiring physical presence. Meaning remains clear despite some grammatical and punctuation errors. The opening fragment, “Which would be beneficial…,” should be joined to the preceding sentence, and “I have been working for this company several years” needs “for several years.” There are also missing articles in “alongside international team” and “at local office,” and the final request would be more grammatical as “I would ask you to help me arrange…” rather than “assist me to arrange.” Review sentence boundaries, articles, and verb patterns, while continuing to use complex structures to show the relationships between your ideas.
