Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Carolina,

I am writing this letter to inquire about working in our head office in Canada for six months.

In Canada, I can work in our head office where I can meet our collegue to learn about new technology. This technology we can use for our branch and create strong work relationship with team member. Also, I would like to meet our few clients who are requesting since long time.

As our company has a branch In Canada and most of our work we can do online though I would like to work from their. Additionally, I have trained my team well so they can support you while I am away.

I would like to ask you a permission and approve my request, so I can prepare for it. Moreover, could you ask our manager to book a trip for me with accomodation.

Yours sincerely,

Jinal Prajapati.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that the head-office placement would help you learn about new technology and meet clients, say your team can support the work while you are away, and request approval and travel arrangements. These are relevant reasons and practical details. However, some points are only briefly developed: explain more specifically how the technology would benefit the branch, and clarify how your duties would be covered or managed remotely. The request for your manager’s help is present, but asking them to arrange a trip and accommodation could be linked more clearly to the approval process. The response is also two words below the required minimum, so add a little relevant detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the request, gives reasons, explains how work could continue, and ends by asking for assistance. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Also” and “Additionally” help connect related points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the stronger control associated with a higher level. However, “Moreover” introduces another request without a clear relationship to the previous sentence, and “As our company has a branch in Canada” does not connect smoothly to the point about working online. Use clearer transitions and references—for example, explain how the team’s support and online work would ensure continuity during the placement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “head office,” “technology,” “clients,” “branch,” and “accommodation.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “strong work relationship,” though the phrasing is not fully natural. Several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems limit precision: “meet our colleague” is unclear when referring to multiple people, “requesting since long time” is awkward, and “accomodation” is misspelled. “Permission and approve my request” is also an imprecise combination. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your purpose, but more accurate workplace collocations and careful spelling would make the letter more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including the relative clause in “where I can meet” and the purpose clause “so I can prepare for it.” The main message remains understandable, and some sentences are controlled. However, some grammatical errors affect accuracy: “This technology we can use” has awkward word order, “I have trained my team well so they can support you” shifts the focus from your work to supporting the manager, and “I would like to ask you a permission” has an article error. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and sentence-boundary choices. Aim to make the subject and meaning explicit, and check articles, clause structure, and punctuation when revising.
