Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Hitesh,
I would like to make a request to work in the company's head office for a period of six months. I am working in New Zealand for the last two years. My parents are living in India. My father is undergoing an eye surgery next week. Therefore, I would like to work in company's head office located in Delhi, which is located close to my home town.
This will offers me the opportunity to work as well as fullfil my responsibilities as a son. My parents need someone who can look after them and provide them emotional support. My mother is also physically disabled;therefore it would be very challenging for her to provide care to my father during his recovery phase.
I will continue to work on my assigned projects. Moreover, my team members happy to assist me during this time by providing me with neccessary updates and resources require for my work. I will attend the meetings with my clients through a online platform. Therefore, I would like you to arrange someone from technical department who can arrange my online meetings. I would really appreciate your cooperation and support during this time . I hope you understand my situation and give a approval to work in company's head office. I look forward to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requirements clearly: you explain the family reason for requesting the transfer, describe how you would continue your projects and attend client meetings online, and ask your manager to arrange technical support and approve the move. The details about your father’s surgery and your mother’s disability make the request persuasive and relevant. Your position remains clear throughout. To make the request more fully developed, clarify the practical arrangement—for example, how your responsibilities and communication with your current team would be managed from Delhi. The request for someone from the technical department is useful, but could specify what support is needed. Overall, the letter covers the task well, with only some practical details left general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: the request and its reason come first, family circumstances are explained next, and work arrangements and the appeal for help appear in the final paragraph. Paragraphing supports this structure, and linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “Moreover” help connect ideas. The progression is easy to follow, though “Therefore” is used more than once to introduce relationships that could be expressed more precisely, and the final paragraph contains several different points in a long sequence. Consider separating the work-continuity plan from the specific request for technical assistance, and use clearer references to connect each point. This would make the cohesion more flexible and less reliant on repeated linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant expressions such as “assigned projects,” “emotional support,” “recovery phase,” and “cooperation and support.” These choices communicate the situation clearly, and the family and workplace vocabulary is appropriate. However, some word forms, collocations, and spellings are inaccurate: “fullfil” should be “fulfil,” “neccessary” should be “necessary,” and “resources require for my work” would be more naturally expressed as “resources required for my work.” “Provide them emotional support” also needs a more natural construction, such as “provide them with emotional support.” Improving these details and choosing more precise wording for the work arrangement would strengthen the range and control of your vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including the explanation beginning “My father is undergoing an eye surgery next week. Therefore…” and the sentence about your mother’s disability. The meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am working in New Zealand for the last two years” needs a present perfect form (“I have been working…”), while “This will offers me” should be “This will offer me.” There are also missing articles or prepositions in “in company’s head office” and “give a approval,” and “my team members happy” needs a verb (“are happy”). Review sentence punctuation and spacing as well, particularly around “disabled; therefore.” More accurate verb forms and sentence construction would improve control.
