Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear.......,

I am writing this letter as I am working in a foreign firm in Punjab, but I am interested to work Six months in Its head office which is located in Chandigarh.

I have already gained a lot of experience related to designing pages on the provincial basis, but now I want to explore further about web designing, making new sites and so on. Moreover, we have advanced technology and experienced staff. So, I want to develop new skills from them.

As I was working one of my project which was a site related to the floor designing and advertisement. Most of the work is already done, you have to just run it online. Check whether it is successfully launched or not.

However, if there would be any problem while running it online, please arrange someone who have knowlegde of same field and who is working in same department as I do. It would make a real difference.

Kind Regards,

Samardeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the three main points: you explain your interest in developing web-design skills, describe the project that could continue while you are away, and ask your manager to arrange support if problems arise. The reasons for wanting to work at the head office are relevant, especially your wish to learn from experienced staff and use advanced technology. However, the arrangement for completing your work is not fully clear: “you have to just run it online” does not specify who will do this or how your responsibilities will be covered during the six months. The request for help is also conditional rather than a clear request to approve or arrange the placement. Make these practical details and your request more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally coherent sequence: it introduces your request, explains your professional motivation, then discusses the project and asks for assistance. Paragraphing helps separate these purposes, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “However” guide the reader. Some links between ideas are less clear, though. “As I was working one of my project” begins a new point without clearly connecting it to the proposed six-month arrangement, and “you have to just run it online” leaves the person responsible uncertain. The opening also combines your current employment and your request in a way that makes the situation harder to follow. Use clearer transitions and refer explicitly to how the project will be managed while you are away.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main purpose, with relevant terms such as “head office,” “advanced technology,” “experienced staff,” and “web designing.” You also attempt more specific language about your work, including “floor designing” and “successfully launched.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning less clear: “explore further about web designing” and “on the provincial basis” are not natural collocations in this context. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “knowlegde” and “designing pages.” Aim for more precise workplace expressions, such as describing the skills you want to develop and the project’s current status, and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example, “Moreover, we have advanced technology and experienced staff. So, I want to develop new skills from them.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the letter awkward or unclear. In “As I was working one of my project,” the tense and sentence structure do not form a complete, clear statement; “Most of the work is already done, you have to just run it online” also joins two independent clauses with only a comma. There are further issues with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “someone who have.” Practise building complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at varied sentence forms.
