Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some parts of the United States, a 'curfew' is imposed which prevents teenagers from going outdoors during the night unless they are accompanied by an adult. I strongly support this view, because teenagers are more likely to make mistakes which negatively impact their lives. This essay will explain the reasons for my opinion.
Teenagers may take the decisions without any practical experiences this definitely leads to negative on their lives, for instance after the curfew is imposed they might not take it serious and perform their regular activities like friends meetups and parties during night. Which definitely become a considerable problem to their entire family. Additionally, If any Law enforced with specific rules, teenagers often failure to follow rules. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 198 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the conclusion is incomplete and the arguments remain underdeveloped. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting points lack depth and specific examples. To improve, you must expand on your reasoning and ensure the essay is fully completed. The ideas presented, such as the potential for teenagers to help in emergencies, are relevant but are not explored sufficiently to reach a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'Although, there are some negative impacts...' which leads to an unfinished sentence. The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of length and the incomplete conclusion. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by fully developed supporting arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'make mistakes' and 'considerable problem'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'teenagers as union group of people' and 'teenagers often failure to follow rules'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to social issues and law enforcement, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Teenagers may take the decisions without any practical experiences this definitely leads to negative on their lives' (run-on sentence and missing noun) and 'If any Law enforced with specific rules, teenagers often failure to follow rules' (incorrect verb form and missing auxiliary). To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and ensuring that your sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on errors.
