Student answer (Band 6.0)

In some parts of the United States, a 'curfew' is imposed which prevents teenagers from going outdoors during the night unless they are accompanied by an adult. I strongly support this view, because teenagers are more likely to make mistakes which negatively impact their lives. This essay will explain the reasons for my opinion.

Teenagers may take the decisions without any practical experiences this definitely lead to negative on their lives, for instance after the curfew is imposed they may not take it as a serious and perform their regular activities like friends gatherings and parties during the night. Which definitely become a considerable problem to their entire family. Additionally, If any Law enforced with specific rules, teenagers often fails to follow the rules. Therefore, adult should accompany during the night if any curfew is imposed in cities.

However, on the other side, teenagers as a union group of people can help on curfew if any emergencies to the public. For instance if any fire accidents on buildings teenagers can save public lives. Furthermore, enforcing specific rules for teenagers which impact on their freedom.

In conclusion, Although, there are some negative impacts to the teenager preventing them during the night on curfew. I strongly believe that it will benefit to their lives and not making them into trouble in early age.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. While the writer mentions that teenagers lack experience and may get into trouble, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or logical reasoning. The counter-argument regarding teenagers helping in emergencies is brief and lacks a clear connection to the main topic of curfews. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the phrase 'Which definitely become' at the start of a sentence, which is a fragment. The transition between the supporting arguments and the counter-argument is abrupt. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of sufficient supporting detail and some awkward phrasing, such as 'as a union group of people'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'take the decisions' instead of 'make decisions' and 'as a union group of people'. The phrasing 'not making them into trouble' is also non-standard. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of collocation errors limit the score. You should focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'this definitely lead to negative on their lives' (missing verb/noun), 'If any Law enforced' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'teenagers often fails' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and sentence fragments. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct verb tense usage, and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a main verb.
