Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some regions of the US do not allow teenagers to wander outside after a certain time at night in case of a 'curfew', unless there is an adult with them. I strongly believe in this notion because criminals can attack children, and they are supposed to be at home when there is a 'curfew'.
The foremost reason for my conviction is that wrongdoers can easily attack minors at night. This is because youngsters are still small and they are not able to defend themselves if they face a criminal. Moreover, a lawbreaker might also have some kind of weapon, such as a knife or a gun, which would be quite hard for a little child to fight with. For example, in 2010, during a curfew in India, numerous criminal activities were noticed, due to which people, especially minors, were recommended to stay indoors. Therefore, a grown-up must always be with a child in case there is a necessity to go out at night during a curfew.
Another compelling argument in favour of my position is that people are supposed to stay indoors if there is a curfew. In other words, curfews are imposed only if there is a national disaster or a terrorist activity is going on, which ultimately supports the idea of staying home. A clear illustration of this can be seen during the 2008 Taj Hotel attack in Mumbai, India, when citizens were advised to stay indoors, which demonstrates that curfews are meant to keep individuals in safe places.
To conclude, people, especially teenagers, are not allowed to move out freely at night during a curfew not only because criminals can attack them but also because people are meant to stay inside during curfew.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments rely heavily on the concept of 'danger' and 'curfews' in a general sense, rather than specifically addressing the social implications of teenage curfews in the US context. The examples provided, such as the 2008 Mumbai attacks, are not entirely relevant to the specific topic of teenage curfews in the US, which weakens the task response. To reach a higher band, you should provide more focused, context-specific arguments regarding the balance between teenage freedom and public safety.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'The foremost reason', 'Moreover', and 'In other words' are used to guide the reader. However, the transition between the general concept of a curfew and the specific examples provided is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the examples and the specific topic of teenage curfews could be more seamless to improve the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'wrongdoers', 'lawbreaker', and 'national disaster'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat words like 'curfew' and 'criminals' frequently. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'in case of a curfew' or 'numerous criminal activities were noticed'. Expanding your range of synonyms and using more precise academic collocations would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as 'in case of a curfew' (which should be 'due to a curfew') and 'a grown-up must always be with a child in case there is a necessity'. Punctuation is generally accurate, but the sentence variety is somewhat restricted. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, with greater precision to minimize the impact of minor errors.
