Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion in favor of curfews. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the argument. While the main points regarding crime and drug prevention are relevant, they are not fully extended with specific examples or nuanced analysis. The conclusion is brief and merely restates the introduction rather than synthesizing the main arguments. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Most importantly', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'The reason for the same is that'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between ideas feels more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices or non-standard collocations, such as 'doing very offences', 'fresh youth', and 'increasement'. Some phrases are repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions appropriate for an argumentative essay. Focus on learning the correct collocations for common academic topics like crime and social policy to avoid unnatural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the rate of crimes are increasing' (subject-verb agreement), 'these transgressions are happened' (passive voice error), and 'the governance can able to protect' (incorrect modal usage). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors in tense, word order, and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs to improve your accuracy.
