Student answer (Band 6.5)
- increasing crime, safety concern, parents are aware of their children's well being
- prevent them from learning new skills and keep away from opportunities, can not utilize their time enough
Taking consideration of increased crime and drug abuse, several parts of US has started imposing lockdown for children of certain age group after a specific period of daytime, unless they are with their parents. There is no doubt that this ensures the safety of children, it affects directly on the mental and physical well being of kids.
The major advantage of this is that it rewards parents with a peace of mind of their children's whereabouts. Moreover, it would highly reduces the number of kids involved in or around criminal activities and harmful substance consumption. All the families in those areas would be able to enjoy their quality time with all members.
However, this would affect directly on the children's personal development. They would not be able to utilize their time after school towards outdoor activities. Due to which, they would lack communication, leadership and public speaking skills. In addition, this would prevent them from employment opportunities too which requires them to work during afternoon or late evenings. For example, parents would feel pressured and their time past noon would revolve around their kids only, making it extremely difficult for some parents who are struggling financially.
To conclude, I believe it is a great initiative, but not a permanent solution. It is not fair to parents and not all of them can afford to be with their kids to accompany them for outdoor activities during night. An understanding from parents about what measures to be taken to be safe and away from trouble would make a long lasting and positive impact on children, which will keep them away from the feeling of restriction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear opinion and supporting arguments for both sides of the issue. The introduction sets the context well, and the body paragraphs explore the advantages and disadvantages of curfews. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the point about employment opportunities is mentioned but not fully explained in relation to the curfew's impact on teenagers. While the position is consistent, the conclusion introduces a new idea—parental education—which is a good suggestion but could have been integrated more smoothly into the main body to strengthen the overall argument. Overall, the response is relevant and well-structured.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the advantages and disadvantages is marked by the clear use of 'However'. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the phrase 'Due to which' is used slightly awkwardly to start a sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is coherent, making the writer's argument easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication of ideas. The student uses some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'criminal activities', 'substance consumption', and 'personal development'. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'affects directly on' (should be 'directly affects') and 'rewards parents with a peace of mind' (should be 'provides parents with peace of mind'). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. The student relies on fairly common phrasing, and there is room for more varied and precise lexical choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'several parts of US has started' (should be 'the US have started') and 'it affects directly on' (should be 'it directly affects'). Additionally, 'their time past noon' is slightly unnatural. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of the message. The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but the control over these is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions with verbs.
