Student answer (Band 6.0)

In certain localities of United States, A 'curfew' is enforced and during that time young generation from age 13 to 19 was supposed to remain inside homes. If it is necessary to go out during late nights, they must be accompanied by an adult. In my opinion this is the legitimate action is worthwhile to ensure teenagers safety and their wellbeing.

To begin with, curfew is always a stressful situation which is generally created due to wars, riots or the excessive crime. Although, a curfew impacts the people of all age groups but teenagers can be easily affected by this situation. It is so because this is the most sensitive age where adolescence starts. In this age, they feel anxiety about the physical and mental changes they are going through. This is the age, when it is easy to make them excited and violent with any personal comment or attack. Going outside alone may cause serious threats or injuries which may leave permanent impression on their body and mind. Sometimes, it may be life threatening too.

In case of emergency to go out, for example to visit doctor, youth must be accompanied by an adult, specifically a parent. Parents or adults can help in controlling the emotions of adolescents and balance their reaction on an unpredictable action. Moreover, teenagers will feel more secure and deprived of committing any offence. Youngsters are assets of a country, if given proper guidance. Even if staying inside homes, they should be alerted about adverse effects of curfew on locality and country at large. The should also be told to avoid any situation which may result in riots or war followed by a curfew.

To sum up, it can be said that government owe a greater responsibility to save young generation. There is no harm to ask teenagers to stay inside during curfew. Rather, it will help controlling the situation promptly and with ease.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion in favor of curfews for teenagers. The ideas are relevant, such as the need for safety and the role of parental guidance. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph conflates a general 'curfew' (often used for crime prevention in the US) with 'wars or riots,' which is a slight misinterpretation of the typical context of teenage curfews. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more nuanced by focusing more on the social benefits or drawbacks of restricting teenage movement rather than focusing on emergency situations like war.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'To sum up,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For instance, the link between 'adolescence' and 'wars or riots' in the second paragraph is a bit disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'legitimate action' and 'unpredictable action,' though some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'deprived of committing any offence' (which should be 'prevented from'). There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'government owe' (should be 'owes') and 'young generation' (should be 'the young generation'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout, such as 'In certain localities of United States' (missing 'the'), 'A curfew is enforced' (capitalization error), and 'The should also be told' (typo). Subject-verb agreement is occasionally inconsistent, such as 'government owe.' While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on article usage, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for minor slips.
