Student answer (Band 6.0)

According to the current scenario, the government has imposed a red alert in some areas to prevent teenagers from using those streets at night for safety reasons unless accompanied by their parents.

To begin with, there is an increasing issue of theft and robbery in some areas of the United States. These places usually have the chance of getting robbed at night. Moreover, people even get killed for opposing them, and these cases have been increasing daily, especially with the teenagers. For instance, an eighteen-year-old kid was killed going home carrying groceries and was denied giving money to robbers. Teenagers even stay out late at night for parties and arrive home late, which needs to avoid unless accompanied by an adult.

To resolve the matter, the government has taken certain measures to reduce crime in the city. They have begun patrolling at midnight and increased the emergency response team to respond immediately. Additionally, they have alerted the community to avoid using some streets, and if needed, try using crowded areas to pass. Considering the situation, they have even notified the adults to keep track of their children while they are away after evening. Last but not least, parents should teach children the ways to deal with this situation.

After discussing the aforementioned reasons, I opine that parents should not allow their children to travel alone, and the police should take necessary steps to get rid of this situation as soon as possible. Possible solutions should be taken into consideration by the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the curfew, but the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a clear opinion in the conclusion, the body paragraphs focus more on general crime prevention measures rather than specifically debating the pros and cons of a curfew policy. To reach a higher band, you should explore the impact of such a policy on teenagers' freedom versus the benefits of public safety more deeply. The example provided is relevant, but the overall argument lacks the depth required for a higher score. Ensure that every point made directly supports your stance on the curfew itself.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'Additionally,' which help the flow. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between the curfew policy and the government's general crime-fighting measures could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the central topic of each paragraph is generally clear, though the link between the introduction and the subsequent arguments could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall cohesion of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'emergency response team' and 'patrolling.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise. For example, 'these places usually have the chance of getting robbed' is slightly unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater precision and variety, moving beyond basic descriptive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'which needs to avoid' (should be 'which needs to be avoided') and 'denied giving money' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction will help improve your accuracy.
