Student answer (Band 6.0)

It in undeniable that some parts in the US, the government has imposed a curfew in which teenagers are not allowed to walk out alone after a specifically time at night unless they have company with an adult. I believe this rule is very important and in this essay, I shall explain the reasons behind it.

To begin with, there are a plenty of reasons why people follow curfew and do not allow young people to roam around alone at the night. The first and foremost reason is the increasing rate of crime in the US. In these days, many people are committing crimes and young people are suffering from this crime. For example, kidnapping and sex trafficking of young people are happening all over the US. Thus, government has issued a curfew in most rated crime city to avoid happening this kind of crimes.

Moreover, hit and run types of cases are also happening all over the US. In other words, if teenagers are alone and roaming around then drunk driver can hit them. Therefore, if they are accompanied by any adult then they are safe. Apart from this, many people have gone missing in major provinces and young people are most of them because they are easy to catch if they are alone in the middle of night. That's why teenagers are always required to have an adult if they are travelling or roaming at the night.

Hence, taking consideration all of this incidents, the government had taken some measurement and curfew is one of them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of curfews. The ideas are relevant, focusing on crime prevention and safety. However, the development is somewhat limited. While the points about kidnapping and traffic accidents are clear, they are presented in a repetitive manner and lack depth. The essay would benefit from more specific examples or a more nuanced discussion of the counter-arguments to fully develop the position. The conclusion is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points or restate the position in a sophisticated way.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Apart from this' and 'Hence, taking consideration all of this incidents'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'this kind of crimes', which lacks a clear antecedent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect collocations, such as 'specifically time', 'plenty of reasons', and 'most rated crime city'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use less common items effectively. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated word choice and the presence of errors in word formation (e.g., 'measurement' instead of 'measures') limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the government', 'the US'), preposition errors ('company with an adult'), and subject-verb agreement problems ('government have issued'). There are also errors in sentence construction, such as 'if teenagers are alone and roaming around then drunk driver can hit them'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing.
