Student answer (Band 6.0)

Over the past decades teenagers had been roaming around In some areas of America especially at night alone. Recently, the government of United States of America has introduced new rule that states no teenager can go out without a guardian. I strongly support this decision due to following reasons.

The primary reason is safety. Nowadays crime ratio has been gone upward in many areas of different countries. Teenagers are the easiest target for criminals. They can be easily theft or killed by criminals because they mostly come out in dark and quiet places. For instance, robbery, stealing, rape and murder happened mostly in night time when all people gone to home. Therefore, this is a wise decision by the government to protect their youth.

Another reason for my agreement is dangerous wildlife of USA. In night time wild animals often have been seen in residential areas in search of food. They can easily attack teens while they are outdoors. For example cheetah, tiger and bears. In some areas of Florida, crocodiles have been seen on the roads. It can cause death and in some cases parents can't find their bodies. This leads to threatened issues for parents also. Hence, this policy is best for USA citizens.

To conclude the discussion, it has more positive results than negative. In my opinion It is safe and best rule for city dwellers by imposing curfew for youngsters at night. Their parents and USA government could feel relief at night and can pay attention in other areas of development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of the curfew. The ideas are relevant, focusing on safety and the presence of wildlife. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument regarding wildlife is factually questionable and hyperbolic (e.g., tigers and cheetahs are not native to the US), which weakens the persuasiveness of the response. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more grounded in reality to reach a higher band. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'Another reason', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow between the supporting points and the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'crime ratio has been gone upward' and 'threatened issues'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'teenagers had been roaming', 'crime ratio has been gone upward'), subject-verb agreement, and missing articles. Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on consistent tense usage and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
