Student answer (Band 5.0)

In some areas of the US, a 'curfew' is imposed, in which teenagers are not allowed to be out of doors after a particular time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult.I believe this curfew is important for the betterment of socity and safety of the teenagers.

Some people things that curfew can effect on the mental health of the teenagers and to much restriction on there action can make them feel like hostage and some activist argue that these curfews againts the human rights. However, there are some areas in the US which are highly effected by drug dealers, human traficking and gang wars.To avaid any mishap or any loose its important to impose curfew in those areas.

On the contrary its the duty of the law inforcement institutions to take care of the such activities other than just imposing the curfew. Obviously curfew is not the solution of these problems its just a precaution which effect the life of the teenagers and there families. Law inforcment institutions need to take strict action againts such activities like petroling in the most effected areas constantly and increasing the security on the boarders to stop import of the illegal drugs of human traficking.

In my opinion curfew on some areas is important to the safety of the teenagers but on the other hand its not the solution of the problem. Its also important that parents take care of there child and keep track of there activities but they should have a right to live there life as they want.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing an opinion on curfews. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you acknowledge the benefits of safety, the argument remains superficial. You mention that curfews are not a solution and suggest law enforcement should do more, but these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or logical depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific reasoning or hypothetical scenarios to support your stance. The position is clear, but the overall development is basic, which aligns with the Band 5 descriptor for task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'On the contrary' is used incorrectly to introduce a new point rather than a contrast to the previous statement. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'there' instead of 'their' throughout the text, which disrupts the flow. While there is an overall progression of ideas, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure limit the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'socity', 'traficking', 'avaid', 'inforcment', and 'petroling'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. Furthermore, there is a reliance on simple, repetitive language. To improve, you should focus on using a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'juvenile delinquency', 'preventative measures', 'law enforcement agencies') and ensure correct spelling. The current range is sufficient to convey the basic message but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, incorrect word forms (e.g., 'effect' used instead of 'affect'), and persistent confusion between 'there', 'their', and 'they are'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. The frequency of these errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader, although the meaning remains generally understandable. Increasing the variety of sentence structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your score.
