Student answer (Band 5.5)

During the night time, minor age group people are restricted from going out alone and permitted to those who are with an adult. In my opinion, it will have a detrimental effect on the life of younger generation.

To begin with, the government rule of, after a particular time at night teenagers are not allowed to be out of doors will be a hinderance to their freedom. They are more energetic and these young people show real enthusiasm to explore new things in their life. So it is not possible for these age group of people to stay in their home. For instance, in the pandemic period the people came out by violating the restrictions because of boredom. In this case the youngsters will have the similar attitude. This clearly states the link with the cause and result of freedom restriction.

In addition, substantial increase in social isolation behavior in teenagers. By the influence of social media the younger ones are already in a stage of home sickness. If the government implement such rules. it will completely change them from showing interest towards society. It will disregard them from participating social activities. In the night time the young people like to spend more time with their friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the arguments remain underdeveloped. For instance, the point about social isolation is introduced but not fully explained or linked back to the curfew effectively. The example regarding the pandemic is somewhat tangential and does not strongly support the argument against curfews. To improve, you need to expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and provide a clear conclusion to summarize your stance, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction and two body paragraphs, but it lacks a concluding paragraph. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, such as 'To begin with' and 'In addition'. There are instances where the logical flow is disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the pandemic example and the conclusion of that paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the ideas within the paragraphs are not always clearly linked, making the progression of the argument feel disjointed at times. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'younger generation', 'young people', and 'younger ones'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'minor age group people' and 'social isolation behavior'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and occasional imprecise word choices limit the score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'permitted to those who are with an adult' (missing subject/verb), 'hinderance to their freedom' (spelling error), and 'If the government implement such rules. it will...' (punctuation and subject-verb agreement errors). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of reading. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid fragments.
