Student answer (Band 6.0)

A number of places in the USA, where teenagers are prohibited to go outside during night time unless they are accompained by older people. I partially agree with the give statement, as imposing curfew rules maybe helpful to governments in order to mitigate the chances of young offenders and foster them towards the bright career, whereas, other measures are needed along with curfew.

On the one hand, introducing curfew rules in some places of the USA plays a pivotal role in order to maintain peaceful and living environment in the society and reduce the crime rate. For example, a research shows that, in the US, the ratio of adult offenders are significantly reduced after curfew law. This legislation also promote the teenagers to take part in activities which have a positive impacts on their life and career. Moreover, company of older people can keep eyes on their movements and stop them immediately if they find any unusual behaviour. Therefore, I think curfew will helpful to decrease the proportion of illegal activities in the USA.

On the other hand, allocating police security in the dangerous zones will be more effective in order to improve the safety of citizens rather than restricting freedom of every community members. Moreover, involving adults in a plenty of academic tasks will makes them busy, which ultimately discourage them for outdoor activities or meet their friends during their leisure time. As a result, it would be more beneficial form them to promote to spend a long hours behind their study for getting good grades in the exams and build a successful career.

In conclusion, along with curfew, providing police security in vulnerable areas and indulging adults in a numerous education tasks have a positive effects on reducing the crime rate and promote teenagers to think for their future rather than the attempting offence, committing crime or theft.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by providing a clear opinion and supporting it with reasons. You have covered both sides of the argument, discussing the benefits of curfews while also suggesting alternative measures like increased police presence. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that 'a research shows' is vague and lacks specific detail. Additionally, there is some confusion in terminology; you refer to 'teenagers' in the prompt but switch to 'adults' in the third paragraph, which weakens the logical flow of your argument. To improve, ensure your supporting examples are more specific and maintain consistency in the subject matter throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the shift from discussing teenagers to 'adults' in the third paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be strengthened by ensuring that each sentence builds more naturally upon the previous one rather than relying on repetitive linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'prohibited', 'mitigate', 'pivotal', and 'vulnerable'. There are some instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'foster them towards the bright career', 'company of older people', and 'indulging adults in a numerous education tasks'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise usage. To reach a higher band, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate for formal academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'teenagers are prohibited to go outside' (should be 'prohibited from going'), 'curfew will helpful' (missing verb), and 'makes them busy' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors throughout. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives and gerunds to improve your accuracy.
