Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some critical restrictions has been imposed in parts of US due to rising criminal activities, exclusively human trafficking of teenagers. Active restrictions include ban on teenagers to roam after particular time or after sunset without supervision of parents and known adults. My support on these action taken by government is heavily positive.

First of all, we all have to admit that shady activities are on the rise and becoming hard to control day by day. A ban on teenagers to roam outside alone is step towards minimizing some of the most violent crimes in US. Criminal activities itself does not require an example but historically it has been seen as most of them are conducted after dusk which is why many playgrounds are only open between time of dawn to dusk.

Meanwhile, in recent years, with increasing technology and young ones getting their hands on it has sharply influenced shift in crimes against teenagers. Usually criminals call them out after dark but with curfew in place it will hold teenagers inside home. From my personal experience of living in US, my parents had never let me out alone after dark outside. With curfew in place parents currently will have more reasons to stop their child without heading into arguments with them.

In conclusion, this step is a move towards more safety and less headache for parents. While imposing it might leave a negative feeling on a child but in later stages of their life, they will surely understand the significance and importance of this curfew. Lastly, everyone will have more safe streets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of curfews. The ideas are relevant, focusing on crime reduction and parental support. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of 'human trafficking' is a serious claim that lacks specific elaboration or evidence. The argument regarding technology influencing crime is also a bit vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or deeper analysis of how these curfews specifically impact teenage behavior or crime statistics, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Meanwhile, in recent years' or 'First of all'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing (e.g., 'this step') could be more precise to ensure smoother flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'criminal activities' and 'supervision'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'shady activities' (which is too informal) and 'call them out' (which is imprecise). There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'Criminal activities itself' (should be 'themselves'). To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some critical restrictions has been imposed'), missing articles ('in parts of US' should be 'in parts of the US'), and awkward phrasing ('a ban on teenagers to roam'). While these errors do not prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve accuracy.
