Student answer (Band 6.5)

After a specific time period at night, a lockdown is imposed on youngsters, which restricts them from going outside without having the company of any adult in certain regions of the United States of America. I would like to give my opinion about the same.

To initiate, the crime rate in the united states of america is extremely high as compared to last couple of years. Nighttime is the best time for criminals to commit a crime. Not only they can steal money from you but also harm you. Taking a real life example into consideration, last month I had visited my uncle in the US, and I walked outside the house after 9 PM. My phone switched off due to battery shortage, and I was chased by a group of people, When I turned back, they suddenly grab me and started to dimand money. I had no money; however, I am physically fit. That is why I escaped from the situation. Moreover, there is a craze of electronics among teenagers, which makes the nighttime worse to go outside because young children watch and make reels on social media and the wear headphones all the time. It becomes the major reason of accidents on roads because visibility is low in certain areas of America during nighttime; therefore, when children do not focus on road, they can be a part of accidents on the road. A survey was collected in 2024 which showed that about 30% of young children become part of an accident because they were using their phones while crossing the road.

Furthermore, due to high drug rate in specific regions, it was necessary to impose a curfew on teenagers that they cannot go alone outside. Government protects the forth coming generation from drugs because when youngsters leave their house during night time there is nobody from their close ones watching them, what they are doing, where they are going, or with whom they are going with. At that time children have complete freedom to do illegal activities like commit a crime, have drugs and so forth. Therefore, restrictions are made for their safety and protection.

Overall, it is clear that young blood must be protected at any cost by both The Government and The parents because control is not just taking teenagers' freedom from them, however it is extremely necessary for there well being, so that they can make a great future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an opinion in favor of curfews. The ideas are relevant, focusing on safety, crime prevention, and the risks of distraction from mobile devices. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. The personal anecdote about being chased is a bit anecdotal and lacks a clear connection to the broader policy argument. While the position is consistent throughout, some arguments, such as the link between social media usage and road accidents, could be more tightly integrated into the core argument regarding curfews. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To initiate,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Overall,' though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the transition between the personal anecdote and the argument about electronics is abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentence-level connections could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'lockdown,' 'imposed,' and 'forth coming generation.' However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'dimand money' (demand), 'battery shortage' (low battery), and 'young blood' (which is an informal idiom not entirely appropriate for this context). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the range and precision of the language used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('they suddenly grab me'), punctuation errors (comma splices), and awkward phrasing ('there well being' instead of 'their well-being'). While the meaning remains clear, these frequent errors indicate a lack of control over more complex structures. The use of articles is also inconsistent, particularly with 'the united states of america.' Improving control over basic grammar and punctuation would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
