Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that in the USA imposed curfew is helpful for young minds in which they are not allowed to go outside after certain period at night and only allowed if they are with their parents, while other believe that it is not a fruitful option. Although both the perspectives have their own merits, this essay will discuss both the views before explaining why I believe the idea of curfew is more convincing.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people support the idea of not permitting children alone after some period at night. Firstly, in the US especially the night of downtown and streets are very dangerous. Because, the drug substances are being sold more frequently. This will ultimately leads the youngsters to get in contact with those and has strong potency to damage their whole lives. Lastly, in the South America there are scenario where people get shoot out with no reason by murderers. If the teenager will allowed to go outside alone then it will result in life threatening situation. For instance, in the North Carolina, a 7 years old boy got shoot out by a street theft just because he was crossing the street to entre inside the restaurant. However, the theft was considering him as hurdle in his plan and cause death of little boy.

On the other hand, many people argue that not allowing children after some point of time at night is not better option. On of the key reason is it's been always a trend in the USA that after certain age child does not stay with parents. In this situation if any youngsters would be having a class at university around the curfew time. This will consequently leads to problem and keep the children away form attending lecture as they live all by themselves. Another notable reason is that, this rule is stopping the independent growth of young minds as they would always accompanied by an adults. This subsequently never permit kids to live and understand world by own selves and make them highly dependent.

In conclusion, while some people believe that it is better option to impose curfew for children at night, others argue in favor of freedom for teen people at night. Taking everything in account, I firmly believe that not allowing children to go outside alone at night because it support their safety, making it more practical and beneficial option.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided reasons for your opinion and included examples, such as the mention of safety concerns in the US. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or contain factual inaccuracies that weaken the argument, such as the reference to 'South America' when the prompt specifically discusses the US. The conclusion clearly restates your stance, which helps in fulfilling the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are strictly relevant to the context provided in the prompt and avoid over-generalising about crime rates.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Because, the drug substances are being sold more frequently.' Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used more naturally would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'fruitful option' and 'life threatening situation'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'night of downtown' instead of 'downtown areas at night' and 'get shoot out' instead of 'be shot'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and spelling errors like 'entre' (enter) and 'form' (from) occur. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and refining your word choice to sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors that can cause minor confusion, such as 'If the teenager will allowed to go outside alone then it will result in life threatening situation.' There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the theft was considering him as hurdle'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. Increasing your control over complex structures and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would significantly improve your score.
