Student answer (Band 7.0)
In today's world, innovation in technology also comes with new crimes and safety concerns. In the US, there are some cities who have implimented that teenagers are prohibited to go out at night until and unless they are accompanied by an adult. I agree that it is not safe for teenagers to be out alone at night. Some people might not agree with this as, it can affect teens mentally and also socially.
I believe that imposing a curfew can be a good way to protect teenagers from different dangers. Firstly, teenagers may not have enough experience to deal with unexpected situations at night. There can be a higher chance of crimes such as robbery, kidnapping or physical violence during late hours. If teenagers are accompanied by an adult, they can feel safer and can get help quickly if something goes wrong. For example, if a teenager has to travel home late at night, having a parent or another responsible adult with them can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Secondly, curfews can also help parents to make sure that their children are safe. Parents can have peace of mind knowing that their teenagers are at home during late hours. It can also prevent teenagers from getting involved in bad activities or spending time with people who may have a negative influence on them. However, I also understand that teenagers need some freedom to become independent. Therefore, I believe that curfews should not be extremely strict and exceptions can be made for important situations such as school events, work or family activities.
In conclusion, although curfews may limit the freedom of teenagers to some extent, I believe that they are necessary for their safety. If the rules are reasonable and exceptions are allowed, curfews can protect teenagers while still giving them some independence.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating an opinion in favor of curfews while acknowledging counter-arguments. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the points regarding safety and parental peace of mind. The structure is logical, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that extend the argument with examples, and a conclusion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more nuanced examples or explore the 'social' impact mentioned in the introduction in greater depth to further demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the main points. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader. The referencing is clear, and the flow between sentences is generally smooth. While the use of cohesive devices is functional and clear, it is somewhat standard; incorporating a wider variety of linking phrases or more sophisticated transitions could elevate the coherence to a higher level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses relevant topic-specific terms like 'prohibited', 'unexpected situations', 'negative influence', and 'independence'. There is a minor spelling error ('implimented' instead of 'implemented'). While the range is adequate, the vocabulary is somewhat predictable. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to incorporate more precise, less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are occasional minor slips, such as the awkward phrasing 'there are some cities who have implimented that teenagers are prohibited to go out'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the grammatical control is sufficient to ensure that meaning is never impeded. To improve, the student should focus on refining complex sentence structures and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
