Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, government impose some rules for the benefits of people. United state declared restrictive law in few areas for teenagers as they are not allowed go alone outside after certain time at night. They should be accompanied by an adult. I completely agree with this viewpoint and will discuss reasons behind this.

There are a number of causes and benefits behind this regulation such as safety and security. To explain, there are a number of cases increasing every day about teens missing. For instance, news about missing minors, while coming back from the school alone. As a result, insecurity and thread to child safety. This kind of rules will help to reduce the same incidents. Additionally, adolescents also learn some basic protective skills when they observe adults using them.

On the other hand, some opponents will claim that it can increase the dependency and fear among teenagers. To elaborate, if youngsters will accompany by someone all the time, they will be not able to deal with such a situation by themselves. For example, teenagers will develop habit of having with people, it will significantly affect their independence and developed insecurity among them. According to my point of view, developing self-reliance is essential, but we need to prioritise the safety need first.

In conclusion, the lockdown imposed by US is very important to overcome the present issues and secure adolescents safety rather than focusing on other aspects. However, it cannot be neglected, we can find another way to deal with it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of curfews. The main ideas—safety and the potential for reduced independence—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'protective skills' is vague and not fully explained. The conclusion is a bit contradictory, as it acknowledges the importance of the rule but then suggests finding 'another way to deal with it' without specifying what that might be. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting examples and ensure your conclusion aligns consistently with your stated position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To explain,' 'Additionally,' and 'On the other hand,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'In conclusion, the lockdown imposed by US,' where 'lockdown' is not the correct term for a curfew. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph is slightly confusing. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'regulation,' 'adolescents,' and 'self-reliance.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'thread to child safety' (should be 'threat') and 'having with people' (which is unclear). The term 'lockdown' is also used incorrectly to describe a curfew. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to focus on more accurate word choices and collocations to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles, such as 'government impose' (should be 'governments impose'), 'United state' (should be 'the United States'), and 'if youngsters will accompany by someone' (should be 'if youngsters are accompanied by someone'). These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
