Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, the trend of visiting remote areas is increasing. It has a significant impact on the local residents and the environment of the visited place. In my opinion, the advantages of tourism outweigh its disadvantages.
The primary reason is that job opportunities will increase in that area. The working class can find jobs in hotels, restaurants and can work as tour guides. More income can be earned by selling handicrafts expressing the culture and tradition of that locality. For example, If tourism increases, more customers will visit the local shops to meet their personal demands, which results in increased sales and more profits. As a result, the economic stability of the population will improve, and the lifestyle can be upgraded.
Another reason is that the remote area can be equipped with advanced technologies and supplies. The hospitals can be upgraded, roads can be improved, and the recreational sites can be innovated according to the demands of the current times. For instance, If hospitals in these areas are improved according to the advanced medical facilities, then residents need not rush to metropolitan cities where all their needs are fulfilled. Therefore, the people residing in isolated and remote areas can enjoy more facilities beyond basic amenities.
The disadvantage is that if a place has more visitors then the natural surroundings can be negatively impacted. It means more garbage can be observed in public places. Natural habitats can be destroyed. There are chances of harming small plantation and vegetation of that area. According to my perspective, this situation can be managed if there are strict government regulations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an opinion on teenage curfews in the US, but the essay discusses the impact of tourism on remote areas. Because the task was not addressed, the score for Task Achievement is significantly impacted. While the essay is structured as an opinion piece with reasons and examples, it fails to respond to the specific prompt provided. To improve, you must carefully read the prompt instructions and ensure your content directly addresses the question asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence. There is a progression of ideas, and cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another reason', and 'Therefore' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. While the content is irrelevant to the prompt, the structural flow and paragraphing are clear and follow a standard essay format, which demonstrates a level of coherence that would be higher if the content were on-topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'economic stability', 'amenities', and 'natural habitats'. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to express ideas with greater sophistication and nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'If tourism increases, more customers will visit... which results in increased sales', where the comma usage and sentence flow could be improved. However, the errors do not impede communication. The control of grammar is generally good, with a variety of structures used, though more complex sentence forms could be used with greater accuracy to reach a higher band.
