Student answer (Band 6.5)

In some part of the US, authorities imposed night-time curfew on teenagers in which they are not allowed to go outside unless they are accompanied by an older person. I think this is a good development because it aids the additional security of the younger ones as well as also promoting the effective monitoring of teenagers' movement during late hours.

First and foremost, due to the reduced rate of harm inflicted on the younger ones after the implementation of this policy,

additional security has became one of the major advantages of the night-time curfew imposed by authorities on teenagers. When teenagers get accompanied by adults during late hours, it prevents them from criminals such as kidnappers, child traffickers and a host of many others. As a result of this, crime activities drastically reduces due to the presence of grown up individuals who tend to foil any attempt that may seem harmful to their younger ones. Recently, most teenagers in Texas who are always found comfortable and safe during late hours at the city center are always accompanied by elder ones such as their parents, uncles, sisters or other grown up relatives. Therefore, night-time curfew on younger generations except they are been accompanied by adult is a major contribution to effective security in the society on teenagers.

Furthermore, this policy also helps parents to monitor their children movement effectively. A lot of guidance and adults who have teenagers in their custody usually find it difficult to have every knowledge about their child's movements, but the introduction and implementation of this policy has contributed greatly to what the adults are trying to implement. Due to the night-time curfew, teenagers are now restricted outdoor if they are not accompanied by adults which could be their parents as well. Most children now tend to be monitored closely than before in the New York since the introduction of this law.

In conclusion, my perspective of outdoor curfews imposed on younger generations after a particular time has contributed to their teenager's safety and positively aids the effective monitoring of children movements by the parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding security and parental monitoring are relevant and supported with examples, such as the reference to teenagers in Texas and New York. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive; the points about 'security' and 'monitoring' overlap significantly, and the explanation could be more nuanced. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth rather than restating the same concepts in different ways. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to signal the structure. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the phrase 'a host of many others' is slightly redundant, and some sentences feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall arrangement of information is coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'implementation', 'custody', and 'restricted', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'reduced rate of harm inflicted on the younger ones' and 'have every knowledge about their child's movements'. These do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A wider range of precise, academic vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles. Examples include 'additional security has became' (should be 'become'), 'teenagers are now restricted outdoor' (should be 'outdoors'), and 'they are been accompanied' (should be 'being'). Additionally, there are minor issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
