Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, crimes around the United State of America got worsen. Curfew in different areas are implement amongst teenager for a certain time unless they have their parents with them. I believe that it must be implemented not only in areas in US but definitely around the world.

Curfew is one option to reduce criminal activity in the society. It helps not only the teenagers but also the adult in various ways. First, the criminal minded person or group will find a harder victims if the young people or teenager will not go out of their houses. Second, the teens will decrease the time they spent outside of their houses if the curfew had been implemented strictly. Last, and as for the adults, its has several positive effects also. Their worries regarding their childrens safety will be lessen. Next, they can sleep peacefully because their children were in the house early. Finally, they can have more significant time with their children.

Implemeting curfew strictly not only in the United States but also around the world will have a significant possitive outcome not only for kids and adults but also for the government. If the society reduces criminal activity it will have a better sorroundings and better neighbourhood. They can have a peaceful place to live in and work in.

In conclusion of my essay, it would be safe to say that their will be a safer, happier and merrier place if the curfew were imposed promptly by their local government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion in favor of curfews. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention benefits for teenagers, adults, and the government, these points are listed rather than fully explored or supported with specific examples. For instance, the claim that criminals will find 'harder victims' is a generalization that lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations or concrete scenarios to support your arguments, ensuring that each point is fully extended rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Second', 'Last', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'their' instead of 'there' in the conclusion). The progression of ideas is logical, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring precise pronoun usage would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'good', 'better', and 'positive'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'worsen' (used incorrectly as a verb here), 'sorroundings', 'neighbourhood', and 'Implemeting'. While your meaning is clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of spelling mistakes limit your score. Try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure you check your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('crimes... got worsen', 'Curfew... are implement'), incorrect verb tenses ('if the curfew had been implemented'), and misuse of articles and prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage before attempting more complex structures.
