Student answer (Band 6.0)

In Recent times, there are some states in USA, which have made it a law that young persons are forbiden to go outside after certain time of night unless there is an adult with them, and I think that it is a good decision because it has significantly reduced the crime rates among them.

Youth is such an age where a person is more vulnerable and is an easy target for any crime like buglery. They are also easier to manipulte, so many criminals may take advantage of this. I personally believe that the curfew that has been imposed in certain areas of America is really a good technique to stop the youngsters from getting any harm. The important part is that in the presence of an adult, they are more secure and less likely to be affected by crimes. In this way they can be out and enjoy night life as well. When the youngs are left unsupervised, there is also a high probability that they might do things that are harmful for them as well as others.

There are certain bad elements of the society like drugs, abuse, and harrasments that

are more likely to happen at night. When comapred the data between the parts where the curfew was implemented to those where there were no restrictions, it showed that there were significantly less crime rates in the one with curfew.

To conclude, the rule that restricts the youngsters to go out at night alone is for their own good in way that they can be safe and also not feel restrained.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address the prompt by discussing the benefits of curfews, specifically focusing on crime reduction and safety. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that teenagers are 'easier to manipulate' and 'vulnerable', these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief and summarizes your stance effectively. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the reasons behind your opinion, rather than just stating the benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas, moving from the vulnerability of youth to the practical benefits of the curfew. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. For instance, you rely on simple transitions like 'In this way' and 'To conclude'. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that referencing is always clear, as some sentences feel slightly disconnected from the previous ones.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'vulnerable', 'unsupervised', and 'restrictions'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'forbiden', 'buglery', 'manipulte', 'harrasments', and 'comapred', which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'youngs' (which should be 'young people' or 'teenagers'). To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and expanding your repertoire of topic-specific vocabulary, while ensuring that you use these words in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'In Recent times, there are some states' (should be 'In recent times, there have been'), 'significantly less crime rates' (should be 'significantly lower crime rates'), and 'restricts the youngsters to go out' (should be 'restricts the youngsters from going out'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to improve your accuracy.
