Student answer (Band 6.5)
In some regions of The United States, teenagers are restricted to stay indoors after certain hours at night unless accompanied by an adult. In my standpoint, putting a curfew is a protective approach for safety of youngsters, however it puts a restriction to their right to freedom.
On the one hand, the main argument for supporting the imposition of curfew at night is the safety concern of teenagers. Since it is a well-known fact that youngsters are more prone to get involved in criminal activities under situations like peer-pressure, limiting their time outside the home would help the community to control their actions and protect them ruining their lives. For instance, the cities which have put on these restrictions, have recorded reduction in the number of juvenile crime rates. Moreover, the supervision of young adults, will ensure that they do not get involved in acts of felonies. The mature generation can guide the youngsters how to control their anger and teach them how to handle difficult situation calmly.
On the other hand, too much restriction can turn the youngsters into rebellious rather than turning them into responsible citizens. Limited control on the their activities will help them to be guided into right paths however, if they are strictly forced to stay inside their house then they will tend to do the opposite because young minds always work in opposite way. Apart from this, if they will not be allowed to go outside their home without supervision, it will limit their ability to participate in activities like schools trips, group studies as well as result in inability to take up part-time jobs.
In conclusion, although restrictions should be placed to ensure safety of teenagers, a balanced flexible, community-based approach should be adopted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position from the introduction. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For example, the argument regarding juvenile crime rates is supported by a logical explanation of how supervision can mitigate risky behavior. However, the development of the counter-argument regarding 'rebellious' behavior is slightly less nuanced, as it relies on a generalization about 'young minds.' To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific examples of how a 'balanced, flexible approach' would function in practice, rather than just mentioning it in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Apart from this' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the second paragraph ('the their activities') is slightly awkward. Overall, the structure is clear and supports the development of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'prone to get involved,' 'criminal activities,' and 'rebellious' are used appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'put on these restrictions' (should be 'imposed these restrictions') and 'protect them ruining their lives' (should be 'protect them from ruining'). Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly and with some flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, but there are persistent errors that prevent a higher score. Examples include 'In my standpoint' (should be 'From my standpoint'), 'the safety of youngsters' (missing article), and 'if they will not be allowed' (incorrect conditional structure; should be 'if they are not allowed'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest that the student has not yet fully mastered complex grammatical forms.
