Student answer (Band 4.5)

In some parts of the United States, a curfew is implemented, where youngsters are restricted to be outdoors after a certain time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult. I completely agree with this view, imposing curfew when needed protects teenagers from becoming a victim at night and makes them responsible.

To begin with, imposing curfew at night prevents young adults from any potential dangers. Children are more likely to be vulnerable at night as there is no matured person

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under-length, containing only 82 words against the 250-word requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the development of ideas is severely curtailed due to the incomplete nature of the essay. You begin to explain the benefits of a curfew, but the argument is cut off mid-sentence. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, at least two well-developed body paragraphs with supporting examples, and a clear conclusion to meet the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is too short to demonstrate a full range of cohesive devices or effective paragraphing. While there is a logical attempt to start an argument using the transition 'To begin with', the text ends abruptly before any progression can be established. The lack of a complete structure makes it impossible to assess your ability to organize ideas coherently over a full essay. To achieve a higher band, you need to develop your points fully and use a variety of linking words to connect your ideas across multiple paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, such as 'implemented', 'restricted', and 'vulnerable'. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are some minor issues, such as 'matured person' (should be 'mature person'). Because the response is so short, it is difficult to demonstrate the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to enhance your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The sentences produced are grammatically sound, such as 'imposing curfew when needed protects teenagers from becoming a victim'. However, the range of structures is limited. The text ends with an incomplete sentence ('...as there is no matured person'), which negatively impacts the assessment of your grammatical control. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or relative clauses, and ensure that all sentences are completed accurately.
