Student answer (Band 6.5)
In some parts of the United States, teenagers are prohibited from being outside after a certain time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult. Although some people argue that such restrictions limit teenagers' freedom, I believe that curfews are beneficial because they enhance teenagers' safety and encourage them to behave more responsibly.
The primary advantage of a curfew is that it protect teenagers from potential dangers. Late at night, young people may be more vulnerable to crime, violence, and negative peer pressure. For instance, a teenager walking alone after midnight could be at a greater risk of being robbed or becoming involved in dangerous activities. By requiring adolescents to return home at a reasonable hour, authorities can reduce their exposure to such risks. Consequently, curfews can play an important role in safeguarding teenagers and ensuring public safety.
Furthermore, curfews encourage responsible behaviour among teenagers and help them develop healthier lifestyle. If teenagers return home at a reasonable time they will have enough time to get sufficient sleep. For example, it is observed that young people who get proper sleep are generally more able to concentrate on their studies and achiever higher academic scores. Curfews can also help teenagers develop discipline, skills, and valuable that will be beneficial for them later in life.
In conclusion, although curfews can restrict teenagers' freedom to certain extent, they are essential to ensure their safety, and help young people develop displine, values, skills, and improve their academic performance. Therefore, I believe that curfews are necessary because teenagers are still developing mentally and emotionally, so certain restriction can help in their overall growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a firm position in favor of curfews. Your ideas are relevant and logically extended, particularly regarding safety and academic performance. The introduction sets a clear tone, and the body paragraphs provide sufficient supporting examples, such as the link between sleep and academic achievement. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully developed; for instance, the mention of 'valuable' (likely meaning 'values') is a bit vague. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question asked.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'For instance' effectively to link your points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. The referencing is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your main points without introducing new information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'prohibited from being outside', 'vulnerable to crime', and 'safeguarding teenagers' are used accurately. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'achiever' instead of 'achieve' and 'valuable' used as a noun instead of 'values'. Additionally, 'displine' is misspelled. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are a few grammatical slips, such as 'it protect' (should be 'it protects') and 'to certain extent' (missing the article 'a'). Punctuation is generally handled well, though there is a missing comma after the introductory clause 'If teenagers return home at a reasonable time'. The errors present are infrequent and do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your argument easily.
