Student answer (Band 6.5)

A curfew has been introduced in a few cities of the United States which doesn't allow teenagers to step out of their homes after a particular time in the evening without an adult. I strongly believe that it is a perfect measure to stop a young individual from getting involved in the drugs as well as crime. This paves a path for the good future for the whole generation. My essay aims at discussing this in detail and providing reasons to support my viewpoint.

On the one hand, the most prominent point is that in America a hefty count of young people are the main criminals in crime scenes. To elaborate it, big gangs offer a big amount of money to young individuals to execute their plans either ton supply drugs or kill somebody. Teenagers have very high chances to fall for their offers as they are not earning any money yet and it gives them a hope to fulfill their wishes.

Moreover, about 70 percent of young population is consuming drugs such as tobacco, vape and many more. They usually spend their pocket money on buying drugs with their friends in the night time which results in very unwanted results later on.

On the other hand, some kids live alone and earn their livelihood themselves due to various reasons. Some of them are orphans and their life is not a bed of roses which means they have to go out of their houses themselves at night for distinct things.

In conclusion, although some young people have issue with this rule, I believe this play a big role in stopping big criminals activities. Government should plan some solutions for youngsters who really need to go out of their homes at night and provide them with some particular permits so law and order could me maintained to keep the country safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding crime prevention and drug use are relevant, though they could be more deeply developed. For instance, the claim that 70 percent of the young population consumes drugs lacks a source or specific context, which weakens the argument. The counter-argument regarding teenagers who work is a good addition, but the suggestion for 'permits' is a bit vague. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the development of ideas is somewhat superficial, leaning towards over-generalisation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the '70 percent' statistic and the curfew rule could be more explicitly linked to ensure a tighter logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks sophistication. There is a reliance on repetitive and simplistic descriptors, such as 'big' (used multiple times) and 'good'. Phrases like 'hefty count' and 'not a bed of roses' show an attempt at idiomatic language, but some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'execute their plans either ton supply drugs'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive, informal adjectives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'getting involved in the drugs' (unnecessary article), 'ton supply' (typo), and 'this play a big role' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is mostly correct, but there are minor slips throughout. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate ideas, but the frequency of small errors prevents a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy.
