In some areas of the US, a 'curfew' is imposed, in which teenagers are not allowed to be out of doors after a particular time at night unless they are accompanied by an adult.

Student answer (Band 6.0)
A prohibition on teenagers is imposed in the US after dark and they cannot go anywhere without adult supervision. Though not ideal, but if safety conditions are compromised, then I think this is a good solution to ensure security of the kids.
First of all, government should make sure that neighbourhood is safe enough for children to roam around in the night. It is the government's responsibility to provide a secure environment, where teenagers can roam around freely. Like in Japan, even pre-teens go to school on their own as the government has fostered such a safe environment. That being said, the society also plays a vital role in creating such space, as the crime rate and sense of security depends on the mindset of the people around you. This ensures that parent's mind is at ease while sending their kids out of home.
However, if the situation is such that the neighbourhood is not safe enough, then I think it is a viable solution found by the US government to keep children safe. Especially, teenagers are at such an age that they need supervision to prevent them from mingling with the wrong people, as they can be influenced easily. With increasing number of kids getting addicted to drugs, I think it is important for the parents to be cautious.
In conclusion, I would like to state that while it is important to create a safe and secure neighbourhood that builds trust and confidence in children, I still agree that the 'curfew' implemented by the US is a step in the right direction as the parents should be extra cautious, especially with teenagers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an opinion on the curfew policy. You have provided relevant reasons, such as the need for safety and the vulnerability of teenagers to negative influences. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the comparison with Japan is a good start, but it is not fully linked back to the specific context of the US curfew. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is expanded with more depth or specific examples to fully justify your position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the government's responsibility and the society's role in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise will help improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prohibition', 'supervision', 'viable solution', and 'mingling'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'roam around in the night' (better: 'roam the streets at night') and 'parent's mind is at ease' (should be 'parents' minds are at ease'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Attempting to use more academic collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'Though not ideal, but if safety conditions are compromised...' (the use of 'though' and 'but' is redundant). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'government should make sure' (should be 'the government') and 'increasing number of kids' (should be 'an increasing number'). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not impede communication.
